      IMO it's extremely secondary whether they get blocked / people don't federate with them. It's a huge win for the protocol. I think 2022 might be the year where ActivityPub is upgraded from an...

      IMO it's extremely secondary whether they get blocked / people don't federate with them. It's a huge win for the protocol.

      I think 2022 might be the year where ActivityPub is upgraded from an obscure protocol used by hobbyists, to one taken seriously.

      It will also mark one of the first non-networking and non-cryptocurrency related decentralized protocols adopted by the mainstream, sinceā€¦ XMPP? RSS? Who knows.

        Well, maybe. Who will use this integration? I guess, people who want to be part of the Tumblr community (including having their posts copied to Tumblr and searchable there), but also have their hosting separate from Tumblr.

        It might end up being a niche use case, like using RSS to read Reddit.

          I think that demographic in and of itself is huge as a lot of Tumblr's regulars left after Sexit, so if you had the ability to run a clean house for the App Store, and side load content from...

          I think that demographic in and of itself is huge as a lot of Tumblr's regulars left after Sexit, so if you had the ability to run a clean house for the App Store, and side load content from various sources, I think that would be almost as big a win as people who want to roll their own server but still want to be part of the ecosystem.

            That would be using client-to-server ActivityPub support to access alternate servers in the iOS client? I guess we'll see if that's what they have in mind.
