I'm more interested in this bit, as this is the first I'm hearing of this act:

The rules demand that messaging services work together and that outside developers get equal access to core features within apps and services.

It goes on to say this is only applied to multimillion dollar companies with over 34 million users. Forcing interop for Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, and Google services could finally result in a disruptive player affecting the market long term.

I hope we get a version of Fdroid for iOS now. That’s the one thing I miss from android. There are plenty of non scummy apps on the App Store but it’s almost impossible to find them because the adware subscription junk has better SEO. Would be nice to have a store dedicated to user respecting apps.

This opens the door to things like emulator apps without the annoying alt store route having to resign apps every 7 days. And given the fact apps will still exist in the normal sandbox, I can’t see sideloading being that dangerous.

Fdroid, and sideloading as a whole is the only thing keeping me on android. If they do go through with this, I really hope this gets opened up to world beyond Europe.

Protip. Whenever a Bloomberg article is paywalled just google the article title and click the bnnbloomberg.ca link. It's the Bell Canada + Bloomberg partnership site, and is never paywalled. ;)...
