This is a bold and terrifying move, throwing considerable resources at doxxing volunteers. While seeking support from the Jewish community under the guise of "fighting anti-semitism." Absolutely disgusting.

It would be one thing to fund a group of Wikipedia users to push their view, but this is outright dystopian.

This sucks. And feeling hopeless is not productive. There will likely be an endless deluge of sewage like this, and each instance needs to be pushed back against.

There will be a stream of things like this, but it won't be endless, and not every instance will be worth pushing back on. Some will be more symbolic and easier to live with or change back once they're no longer in power, and some will fundamentally restructure how knowledge spreads or how people are elected, and those are the ones that need all the energy put into them.

Take Trump talking about Panama and Greenland. It's taken a huge amount of attention the last week or so, but is it worth the energy put into refuting it? It's an area where there's little to nothing we can do about it. We can support Wikipedia far more than we can affect the foreign policy of the USA. Being able to pick the battles to prioritize will mean better resistance.

It occurs to me that this ties into their Project 2025 agenda of identifying and firing “hostile” government employees. This is probably going to result in the firings of any liberal editors found to be in the civil service, not just manipulating Wikipedia content to be more right wing.

This is the exact same organization making a watchlist of government officials to fire based off their social media. Edit history will clearly be next. What else is coming to weed out the “enemies of the state”?

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/2024/11/02/federal-career-employees-watchlist-trump/

An organization funded by the conservative Heritage Foundation has compiled an online “watch list” of federal employees it claims cannot be trusted to secure the U.S. border and should be fired, a sign that supporters of Donald Trump’s immigration policies are preparing to help him neutralize the administrative state they believe tried to thwart his first presidency.

The “DHS Bureaucrat Watch List” — a website unveiled in the final weeks of a presidential campaign in which immigration is a key issue — names 51 federal policy experts and high-ranking leaders, the majority of whom are career civil servants at the Department of Homeland Security and other agencies. The group identified them largely using public social media comments, prior work experience and campaign finance records.
