Is there one AI product you would recommend over another to a complete newbie? The primary task is writing.
So I have heard/read that LLMs available to the public can be useful for generating tailored cover letters more quickly. I've up to now avoided using artificial intelligence. What recommendations do you have and do you have any advice for getting up to speed?
Thank you.
I think Anthropic’s paid service for Claude is quite good for writing. I’ve been discussing different models with my wife, and she’s been using Claude’s document upload to great effect, including for cover letters. She’d used a bit of chatGPT but none of the paid tools before Claude. You can upload writing samples, a job posting and your resume, give it some direction, and it can produce compelling results.
Claude’s project system is really quite good, and the way you can add artifacts or link to google docs to have instantly updated context is amazing.
For this particular use case, you could add your resume as an Google doc, and then build out a complete biography of your life as another data source. Maybe give a couple cover letters as context as well so it can get a sense of your style, and then upload the job description, company website, etc as context and let it work out the connections for what’s applicable. Keep adding the cover letters that you like as more context and it will use them to better tailor subsequent content.
If you are really curious what the different models can do and don't mind experimenting a bit I would give openrouter a try. It is a service providing access to various different LLM providers through the API, but they also have a chat option on their website.
However, if you are more looking for a generally smooth experience and don't want to dive in too deeply the recommendations of using Claude are solid as well.
