That's a separate offense, for torrenting movies in general presumably. A redditor also makes an unsourced claim that this is a suspended sentence, not jail.

shared 347 clips of nude scenes on the Reddit group he moderated, which were then viewed 4.2 million times

He shared them in the subreddit - or forum - he was a moderator of.

his subreddit [sedetforplottet] had more than 6,000 members and users were encouraged to request for clips of specific actors.

A redditor also makes an unsourced claim that this is a suspended sentence, not jail.

It actually says directly in the article that is linked here: That's the third paragraph.

I can’t get behind the idea that decontextualizing a movie scene is somehow a violation of anyone’s rights or a form of abuse against the actors in that scene. A film is fundamentally a recording, and that’s just the nature of the beast. People have been wearing out certain portions of videotape from excessive rewinds since the VHS era. Was that a crime against moral rights? Performers and studios can’t dictate how a movie is supposed to be watched, or how pure the audience’s thoughts are as they watch it.

I get that the “real crime” here (or at least the more widely recognized infraction) is copyright violation. Personally I think that’s a crock too, but the story should at least be centered around that. All this talk of lecherous men making actors uncomfortable just confuses the issue.

Yeah, I'm with you. That there's a whole online industry for celebrity nudes is too much for me, but decontextualizing a movie? Might as well shut down GIPHY too.

I think moral rights is a grey area and I won’t touch on that but I will say that his username loosely translates to GrossGuy which can’t help. Again I’m not sure this law is the right way to go...

Again I’m not sure this law is the right way to go and I think this case has been framed in the media to be more about abuse to fit into a click baity narrative instead of the actual sentence. BUT at the same time I think it’s important to bring this behaviour forward so we can discuss the very reel personal consequences this have on people in this line of work.

Perhaps I misunderstand, but what exactly are the consequences of sharing clips from publicly (if paywalled) available movies? I can see how it may be somewhat uncomfortable for the actors to be shared only for a nude scene, but it's hard for me to consider it harmful enough to be punished in any way since the scenes were already made to be aired. And the second potential issue, piracy, is obviously de iure real, but I find it hard to see a significant loss of potential profit here.
