We're worried we'll use them against each other in war, but all it takes is a big enough crisis, and scared people will do just about anything to feel safe again. It's a short step from a major crisis to weaponized drones being deployed against human beings during peace time.

We're heading toward a very dark place.

I support using them for incident response, like when searching for an armed suspect on the loose in a neighborhood. I don't think I would want drones doing routine patrols, though.

I can see this happening in China, but I can't imagine it happening in the U.S. any time soon.

What makes you say that? As noted in the article, law enforcement agencies already use drones in some places -- 347 agencies according to this infographic put out last October -- and all they're talking about is connecting drones to a database that's also already in use by law enforcement. There have already been legislative battles in some states about whether and how police can use drones.

Given that the technology is there, the legal framework is in place (or at least being debated), and given the American public's general tolerance for police "doing what they need to do to keep us safe," I'm not sure what doesn't suggest this could happen in the US soon.

I'm surprised that with new technology they don't catch more people doing things. For instance, if you drive through a toll Lane hear that requires a pass they will catch you on camera, track you down, and send you a ticket no problem. You would think they would be able to catch people with expired tags as well.

Also, until recently I had a very bad misconception about drones. I kept wondering how so many people are such good Pilots already. I didn't realize that a lot of drones will maintain the altitude for you and then all you have to do is decide what direction you want. I didn't realize you could press a button and then it come back home. So I kept wondering how the hell are people not crashing their drones if they're having to maintain the height and drive it around and monitor the camera.

But I watched the video and I watched how dumbed-down drone piloting is. So just think about that. The average person can just get one of these things and outfit with whatever.

UK police forces have been using them for over a decade now, even just to monitor festival-goers Newer drones can even shoot their load over you ;)

MW Power, the company that distributes the technology in the UK, plans to improve the drone's capability by adding a so-called "smart water" spray - a liquid infused with unique artificial DNA sequences which can be squirted on to a suspect from above. It infuses their clothes and skin and the DNA code can be used later to identify them.

Everyday the world just keeps turning into Call of Duty. People seem really eager to use all the new tech to spy and kill.
