In any case my favourite feature is definitely the !bangs, they're so damn useful. I use it multiple times a day.
It works in the opposite order too, like g!. I tend to use that format on mobile because my keyboard automatically adds a space after the exclamation point, so !g is a bit more annoying to type.

When you mouse over a suggestion it'll IMEDIATELY replace your text with it, and if you don't realize and keep typing (which is really easy to do since sometimes only the !bang changes) then you get a face full of garbage results, or some random website because it selected another popular bang.
Idk if it actually happens for other people regularly, but gosh darn is it annoying to use ddg suggestions when you're also using a laptop. I've got this tray for the laptop which has enough room to use a mouse by the side of it, so there's occasional nudges/tilts/repositions. Even tried training myself to move the mouse further away from the search box but the cursor still found its way over there ;c
So now I use the firefox omnibar because although ddg has been improving, it seems like there'll always be little things for me to get irrationally infuriated at. A few years ago it was that they had really awkward and inconsistent behavior for middle mouse clicks on results, so it just seems like their only weakness is the smaller more irrelevant details. Which is a good weakness to have i'd say, if you had to have any.
I know DuckDuckGo has been around for quite a while but I've never used it myself. What are the advantages it over search engines like Google or Bing, out of curiosity?

Privacy is the main selling point, but personally I think DDG has a better user interface than Google and Bing (neither of which even have infinite scrolling).

DDG does for some reason tend to favor AMP URLs for the links found in its 'news' section.
Not yet, but I'd definitely like it to. We can scrape the links that are submitted and should be able to convert them back to the "normal" one, away from any AMP or other mobile versions.

If you look at their investment history, they don't seem to have a ton of exposure to these riskier investments. Most of their investments have proven business models and in the case of DDG, are actually making a profit.
I recently switched. Google is getting worse and worse, and ddd isn't bad. I suspect I'll still use Google from time to time, but ddd is good enough to be my default search engine.

Other people have mentioned it already, but DDG's "bangs" make it really easy to use google when you want to, while keeping DDG as your default. If you don't think the DDG results are great for something, you can just add !g or g! on to the end of the search and it will forward you to google with the same query.
I also find the !gv bang very useful - that sends you to google in "verbatim" mode, which stops it from trying to "fix" your search for you and keeps it as exactly what you typed in (which is usually what I want).
Also !s which sends you to StartPage - basically a wrapper for Google search that runs everything through their servers. That way Google can't associate that search with you in any way and thus...

One reason I'm not using StartPage is that it takes a year to load in comparison to DDG, at least in my experience. DDG usually takes a second, and SP takes 5 seconds in good cases.

I just switched a few days ago because of this thread to try it out. This is a great feature that'll make the Google withdrawals a bit more manageable.

Good for them. I’ve been using them for several years and it’s good to see them making money without invading privacy in a business where others do.
Not mentioned in OP, which is a pity: they just hit a new record on their traffic numbers, which they publish
Switched to duckduckgo a long time ago, glad to see google hurting. Wish I could donate or do something for DDG but I'm broke as shit.
They're not.
Well, yeah. True. I mean to say good to see them getting some criticism from users and articles.
I love that ddg is doing ok, their search have improved a lot too

I didn't know about the !bangs. That's really useful, thanks!
Thanks for linking me to the page StellarV, you are my hero of the hour
Thanks, I'm honored! :)
Pretty sure I have been using !bangs wrong this whole time. I was using "g dogs" instead of "!g dogs". No wonder I never found it useful in the past.
It works in the opposite order too, like
g!

Never even thought I needed infinite scrolling, but that sounds like a pretty beat feature.
But the privacy would probably be what sways me.

Thank you! AMP is cancer, so that's a great reason to switch to DDG.

Hm interesting point, I didn't know about this. Thanks, I'll definitely have to look into this further.
Thanks, I'll definitely have to check it out then
Should pension funds be investing in startups? I think I'd prefer mine to be an index fund.
