I was a bit surprised to see this perspective - I would have thought Facebook getting more control over Instagram's running would be a good thing for them. End users probably won't follow the news about the founders leaving, if my anecdata on people's knowledge of WhatsApp's story is anything to go by.
I definitely think Instagram these days is the new Facebook, or what Facebook was 5 years ago - when meeting someone new, you check out their Instagram profile. Facebook is not going to let anything stop them from taking full advantage of this.
