    I have little to no interest in these AIO VR headsets - they just don't have the graphical power to push what I'd like to see. That being said, I understand why the market is shifting that...

    I have little to no interest in these AIO VR headsets - they just don't have the graphical power to push what I'd like to see.

    That being said, I understand why the market is shifting that direction. They're trying to capture a larger consumer base. I'm not convinced it will work and might kill VR for a while.

        I think this depends a lot on the game. Graphics and art are a huge part of gaming to me. I just quickly googled rec room, and a game with graphics like that would be a huge turnoff for me.

          Out of curiosity, how do you feel about cel shaded games like wind waker? I do remember a lot of people panning it at the time, but I think it's held up better than any other big 3D game of the era.

          And whether you like the art style or not, I'd really recommend giving rec room a shot if you get the chance. It's a blast, and the only VR game I've put more than a few hours into.

            I avoided wind waker when it first came out because I hated the art style. I found myself playing it some years later because I had nothing else to play, and while I still didn't like the art the gameplay was good enough that I could ignore it.

            To be clear, I have nothing against cell shading, it's the "kid-ifying" of everything (chibi) that bugged me the most.

    I was surprised when they released their current standalone headset with only 3 DoF. It came out well after the windows mixed reality headsets, which had a nearly perfect implementation of 6DoF...

    Anyway, price and resolution are quite impressive: $400 for a headset running at 3200x1440. Gotta wonder how they pull that off with mobile hardware, since I didn't see any mention of foveated rendering.
