I'm very surprised there's no debit option for donations. I get that it's to prevent people from falsely donating money, as the charge is more likely to go through on a credit card, but it's...

Do you have a bank account already associated with your Paypal account? Because when I did, you would usually see the option of which way you want to pay. I've since de-linked it for security...

Agree with everything, but you're describing reform here. People got this messed up idea that political reform somehow means keeping everything the same except for this one specific idea. It's...

Still reading through this, as its quite long but informative. I personally think step 4 is one of, if not perhaps the most important contributor to the issues we've been seeing with the internet....

I personally think step 4 is one of, if not perhaps the most important contributor to the issues we've been seeing with the internet. Growth above everything promotes a mentality of "I don't care why we are growing, just grow" and toxic material gets left up because it draws views, attention, and hits.

I wonder what the people mentioned in this article would say when the internet-at-large finally notices that Tildes exists.

Like all things, this is a symptom of the economic inequality and rampant greed that pervades our society.

One one hand, patreon has proven that users will donate to support things they care about, even if only to keep supporting them. But many, like myself, cant afford to - I simply dont have the disposable income to the point where I can say "yes, I will subscribe to youtube, netflix, reddit, facebook, and chuck my 5 favorite youtubers 10$ a pop." That adds up to almost 100$ right there, despite each individual purchase costing basically nothing. 100$ can buy me food for 3 weeks.

On the other side, Mark Zuckerberg is worth almost 60 billion dollars. His salary last year was 9 million dollars. He, by himself, could pay the 10$ membership fee for 400,000 people and still make 4 million next year - and compared to some of the other super-rich, he's small fish.

Yeah, we "just cant afford" to not have ads. Mhm.
