    Let's tie this discussion and the "The Hard Truths of Trying to ‘Save’ the Rural Economy" one together into one neat package that says "Rural America doesn't offer skilled labor, cheap enough labor, or large enough concentrations of related industries, and despite the ongoing depopulation from people leaving to find opportunities elsewhere they can hold a lock on the US Senate indefinitely."

    As an aside, I find it interesting that Jean-Louis Gassée is quoted so often here. I have such trouble squaring the notion that he wasn't seen as one of the greater leaders within Apple with his prominence of opinion today while writing at Monday Note. I respect his perspective today, but always seem to recall what I've read about "historical Apple".

    I still wish Apple could build the skill to manufacture in the US, but their reality as a global company means they don't need to, except in limited circumstances in where it makes sense—some iMacs and Mac Pros, most recently.
