YouTube's recommendation algorithm has done more harm than good to the site in my eyes.

It killed channels that upload high quality channels at a slower pace, because the algorithm began to favour channels with more frequent upload schedules and longer videos. It's the reason why animators like Oney and Egoraptor have long since abandoned their craft in favour of low effort let's play content because they simply couldn't keep up.

It's also too good at recommending similar videos based on a viewer's history. Elsagate happened because channels began to exploit the popularity of kids cartoon & film characters by uploading their own low effort and even disturbing content to YouTube, which the algorithm simply lapped up. The #YouTubeWakeUp movement happened because the algorithm became too good at recommending kids ASMR and gymnastics videos to pedophiles and creating a predator rabbit hole.
