I really like the idea of paying a monthly fee into something that does all the heavy lifting for me and distributes that money to the stuff I'm actually consuming.

I really like the idea of usage-based micropayment services as an alternative to advertisement and per-site subscriptions. Brave seems to be the most successful, but personally I'm sticking with Flattr so far (which you've maybe seen me shill every chance I get). I'm deeply sceptical of US-based tech companies, so I'd rather support a EU-based alternative for as long as I can. I also think fiat transactions is a lot more practical for both subscribers and creators than cryptocurrency transactions.

Mozilla has been in talks with a micropayment service named Scroll for some sort of collaboration. I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned in the recent news about some sort of Mozilla subscription service.

I'm not very familiar with Coil, and while I find this news exciting, I'm sceptical about locking part of the content away as subscriber exclusives. Patreon does the same, and it rubs me the wrong way.

I do wonder how many of these services there is room for though. Will they all be able to co-exist, or will it end up as a winner-takes-all situation, with most of them going under or merging?

Is that what they are now? I remember when they were an image hosting website. These days I use put.re for my image hosting needs. It has fewer clicks involved to do what I want it to do (upload a picture and get a shareable link), and it feels quicker and more reliable as a bonus.
