Reposted as the original Reddit link, this is a method that will let you force enabling RCS through any Android Device via the Messenger app. I tried it on three different devices and it seemed to work just fine, and where I live is a cellular dead zone, so texting via WiFi is much appreciated.
Edit: If you send an MMS, you'll have to turn the flag back on. Not really a prime time solution.

I think it has something to do with with sending picture MMS in particular, where you have to reactivate it manually. At least for me.
