This has got to be pretty far up there in the list of dumbest crimes ever. What was their best-case scenario here? The victim transfers the domain (a process with multiple paper trails) at gunpoint, and then he just never calls the police afterwards? Were they going to murder him after he transferred it? Did they think previous attempts to purchase the the domain coupled with the transfer of the domain around the time of death wouldn't look super suspicious?

On the upside, this "influencer" will be in prison long enough for his relevance to dwindle and his fanbase to move on. He won't have anything he had going into prison when he leaves it.

I believe the sentence would be much smaller if the perpetrator had used technological methods instead of physical ones.

Here's a (long) article about this situation published today as well: The Influencer and the Hit Man - How a years-long domain name feud ended in a bloody shootout

Recommend reading that article, it's very entertaining. It's incredible that people do stuff this stupid.
