Reading that is a punch in the gut. We can't afford to lose Mozilla, they're one of the last remaining defenders of the open web.

Hopefully our resident Mozillian isn't part of the 70, @dblohm7.

Fortunately I was not laid off, but that is obviously a bittersweet feeling. We lost some good people today.

(If anybody is hiring, please let me know how people can get in touch and I will ensure that the information is made available to the affected people.)

P.S. While I can appreciate that there is probably a lot of curiosity about what is going on, this is pretty much all I'm going to say on the matter -- the press is sniffing around for quotes. Most Mozillians did not learn about the layoffs until the aforementioned memo came out this morning anyway, so other than having a bit of an idea as to who lost their jobs, I don't really know anything other than what is already public.

It's worth reading the memo in the above article.

We are doing this with the utmost respect for each and every person who is impacted and will go to great lengths to take care of them by providing generous exit packages and outplacement support

And then goes on to explain the thought process behind the decision and what's planned for the future. It is most certainly unfortunate for the people involved, but I have to say that I feel fairly comfortable not only with the future of the individuals impacted (given the first quote above) but also the future of Mozilla itself given the level of transparency I'm picking up from this memo.

Even though I expect it will be difficult to digest right now, I would like to share more about what led to this decision. Perhaps you can come back to it later, if that’s easier.
