    Audacity is the go-to for free audio editing, however the interface may be more complicated than you like. You can definitely use it in a simple way, you'll just have to ignore 90% of the bells...

    There's also a recorder built in to Windows that's on the much, much simpler end of things.

      Audacity should be simple enough. The only thing to note I can think of is OP will need to use "export audio" to make an mp3 etc.

        I just realized you weren’t asking if the export feature exists.

        It’s been a while since I’ve used it, but iirc, there is an export item in the file menu.

      We have a winner! Thank you. :) I also discovered that a sound editing software I've had for ages, also has a "Record Audio" feature. I'm covered. Thanks!
