The use (and abuse) of contractors in the US is another problem the country could fix. It's such a simple way to get the maximum out of your "employees" while still underpaying them because they need a job so badly. The fact that Apple cares so much about their users privacy and making their products "green" but then turns around and abuses a key part of their infrastructure is pretty damning and shows how hypocritical they are in caring about something only when it brings them profit.

I can't fault them for that though, because a publicly traded companies sole purpose in our system is to generate profit and grow it quarterly. Laws should exist to prevent companies from profiteering off suffering, but they don't. All I can do is morally object and not buy Apple products, which doesn't make it too much better because most other companies in the tech sector engage in the same practices, especially when it comes to departments like customer support, which are usually completely made up of contractors. Nor can I get hardware that wasn't produced in China under subhuman circumstances, unless you buy outliers like the FairPhone.
