Maybe Apple sometimes gets the timing wrong but in hindsight, it seems like most of their decisions to drop old technology work out just fine.

Well, there's still the matter of that missing floppy disk drive, and the absence of serial and parallel ports. Apple partisans are ready with a litany of excuses--nobody uses floppy disks anymore, and the iMac has universal serial bus ports in place of the old serial and parallel ports.
