Interesting that they are showing off the Pixel 5 and 4A 5G right now but aren't shipping them until the fall. I'm also impressed that they managed to lower the price by $50 from last year's $399 Pixel 3A. It seems like a great phone for the price.
I have called the Pixel 4A “basic,” and I’m well aware that word is used as an insult. But the thing I’m getting at is the 4A does a good job of handling all of the basics people expect out of a phone: good battery life, good camera, good software, acceptable speed.

The Pixel 4A is cheap and basic, but most cheap phones don’t get the basics right. The Pixel 4A does. And just to remind you: it does so for $349.
I'm curious how the battery life will be on it, given that the battery is only 3,140 mAh. I never trust these day one reviews about battery life because usually they've had the phones for such a short amount of time that it's hard to get a good read on battery life.
Unfortunately, even long-term reviews don't tell you much, because you probably have a different mix of applications and usage habits than any given reviewer. Installing one battery hog can make...

Battery life also gets worse over the life of the phone.
Right, but 10 different reviews that all say, “I used this as my primary phone for six months and the battery life is great”, then I can get a good idea that it has decent battery life.

I guess I'm like "what do you mean by great?" But then again, I never know what to put for for one-to-five star reviews. Compared to what? For what it's worth, the Pixel 4a is supposed to have 10%...

For what it's worth, the Pixel 4a is supposed to have 10% more capacity than the Pixel 4. But larger phones (like the Pixel 4 XL) typically have more battery life.
I'm rather frustrated that for that entire review, they never once mention the existance of NFC. I swear, sometimes I feel as if I'm literally the only person who uses this feature.

That's a bit judgmental. You don't know if they actually owned a 3a, or simply tested one. They may also be taking advantage of a trade-in program to pay the difference rather than buying the...

The Verge also has a review of the Pixel 4A up already:

5 stars if it's okay. 1 star if it had a single thing that bothered you.
I wonder why they call it the "5 star" system?
