      I think if someone did a direct comparison with what we had five years ago, they would find that web browsers have gotten better (the lowest common denominator has improved) but websites have gotten worse. There seem to be a lot of new proposed API's that are uninteresting for most web developers, but if you ignore them then you're not worse off?

      It's increasingly like C++, where to remain sane and keep your code portable, you have to stick to a subset of the language. There is too much stuff on the periphery that most web developers won't care about.
