There seem to be a lot of new proposed API's that are uninteresting for most web developers, but if you ignore them then you're not worse off?
It's increasingly like C++, where to remain sane and keep your code portable, you have to stick to a subset of the language. There is too much stuff on the periphery that most web developers won't care about.
