    This is why I don't trust products like Ring, Nest, Simplisafe, etc. You have no idea who could be watching video of you and your loved-ones.

    The title of this article is not accurate with what the content is. A single named ADT employee allegedly added his personal email address to the list of authorized users that could access the IP cameras he installed. He admitted to spying on individuals in their homes for sexual gratification. The cameras were not "backdoored" in the sense given by the title, since this is a functionality intentionally provided to homeowners to remotely view the status of their home. The technician abused his power as an employee.

      It is noteworthy, though, that ADT's security practices are so bad that they didn't have any procedures in place to alert the user or the company that something like this was going on. A few users discovered it by accident and alerted the company. For all we know, there are other ADT employees who have done the same thing but nobody has noticed yet. I find that disturbing.
