A "reverse spell checker" in Firefox

I was reading the topic about ableist language:

Replacing ableist and mental health exclusive language

I realized that, regardless of my opinion on the use of certain words like "crazy" or "insane", there are almost always better words that can be used to make my writing better, even if it's just a random comment on Tildes.

What I would really like would be an extension that supports adding words to a custom dictionary, and will then highlight those words with a reminder not to use them. It would be even better if I could, per word, provide a custom reason not to use that word.

I searched around a bit, but could not find an extension that does this. Unfortunately, LanguageTool does not support such a feature.

      • User can add custom alternative words
      • Thesaurus integration to make finding alternative words easier

I smell a new entry into the never-to-be-implemented-program-ideas section of my notes

Concerning overused words like amazing (which is a perfect example), Grammarly does that to an extent.

Not exactly what you’re describing, but this extension comes to mind.
