Agreed. I'm not in the market for a new laptop at the moment, my Thinkpad t440 is still going strong, but this will definitely be on my radar for a replacement as and when I need one.
If this laptop actually materializes, I would be really tempted to just buy it instead though. Not necessarily because I like it more than the other options, but because I really want the ideals of modularity in laptops to make a comeback.

I support this. I got a MBP for work and there's literally nothing upgradable to it. Memory, storage, CPU (to be expected, to be fair) are all soldered onto the board. So I had to aim high in the specs when I requested it, so it would last. Which is probably what Apple's banking on because the costs are ridiculous. Fantastic machine, but knowing that it literally can't be improved is wasteful, frustrating, and really limiting.

Some laptops allow for cpu upgrades. I did that on my T430.
