    My car has a remote start feature, which uses an app to start the car remotely via an LTE connection. They charge a monthly fee to do that (which I don't pay). I can understand that costing money, since it uses their servers and the car's built in cell modem.

    But this is literally just a key fob that lets you start the car remotely, just like you unlock your doors with said key fob. There is literally no involvement of anything except the fob and the car.

    Hopefully there will be an aftermarket solution that makes this possible without Toyota's involvement.

    There is no reason for this to have an ongoing cost other than pure greed.
