iOS - are you able to highlight some text in a comment so that you can copy and paste into a quote?
I have not been paying close attention lately, but I swear that it was possible to highlight some text in my notifications and/or topic’s comment thread views, so that I can paste it into a quote in my reply.
Anyone else have an iOS device that they can try this on?
It is not a problem with text topics, as above.. so can you highlight text in this comment? Btw, iOS 12.01.
Edit: and I made a typo in the title.. test=text @deimos, yes I should have turned my phone sideways as you had previously suggested
Not sure that this video shows anything helpful.. but I touch, long touch, double-tap and no selection.
There may be something wrong with my device, iPhone 6S Plus.

But the weird thing is that the bug only happens on comments, on Tildes.
Edit: oh, after some comments appear on the screen, I can no longer highlight the text in the op topic either.
Edit2: and it really only happens on Tildes.net. I can’t reproduce this behavior in Safari in general. And I swear this didn’t happen before.
@Bauke, can you try to reproduce this entire flow?
Like look in your notifications on iOS, and try to select some text from this comment? Sorry, this is weird.
Ok, so it only happens after I hit reply, and the reply input is open. If I don’t hit reply first,(most of the time, I still can’t reproduce this perfectly) I can select text all over the screen.
If the reply input is visible, then the lens thingy appears, but the focus jumps to the reply input.
Sweeeeet! I’m not crazy :)
Do you mind writing it up correctly ?
Thanks! I want to learn how to properly write this type of issue up.
So where do you report WebKit bugs, assuming that’s it?
https://webkit.org/reporting-bugs/ ?
Well, I have been trying to understand how to isolate WebKit from iOS in this bug, and I’m not sure. But since you called it, please feel free to write it up there and maybe here: https://developer.apple.com/bug-reporting/ ?
Thanks for doing the real work on this :)
Edit: and if you don’t wanna, let me know. I’ll try if you don’t have time or desire.
Dammit :) I don’t know if reporting novel bugs gives you any street cred on the dev career path, these days. But if it does, both of those spots seem good, right? I’m not on that career path, but I’ll do my part if necessary. Maybe @deimos could chime in on the career path part.. should an up and coming dev make a point to report bugs like this?
Edit: typo in mention
I don't know if it would particularly help with that sort of thing, but it might be a good way to get some insight into reporting/fixing processes, and just having generally more knowledge about that could be helpful for you. For example, if they ask for more details in response, it can teach you what sort of things are useful to look into up-front, which makes your future reports better.
Thanks for the reply to my question! I believe the bug was filed as hoped, by the person with the appropriate knowledge :)
Oh wow, ok.
I guess to add, since I’m often the odd-ball in my use cases... this happens when I want to quote multiple excerpts. Copy/paste one, then write my reply, then copy paste another, write reply, etc...
@bauke - in fact, after the bug begins.. because I already touched reply, I can no longer select text until I do a browser refresh.. even after I cancel the reply input.
Weird, in Safari does not work for me. I’ll take a video and post it.
