Do you have your invite request email? Post it and let's find out what drives people to want to be a part of Tildes.
Dear Tildes Team:
I've been a long-time Reddit user, but lately it's been feeling more
and more like Facebook. Suggested posts, hidden comments, and the
subreddits I actually subscribe to are buried under irrelevant
algo-suggested junk. The concept of Reddit is great, but its execution
is done by a public corporation nowadays and its enshittification has
been notable.
I've been looking for a simpler, less commercialized place:
chronological, user-curated feeds, thoughtful discussions as opposed
to endless low-effort memes, and in general, absence of corporate
nonsense to push engagement metrics and ads.
Tildes seems to fit the bill. I like its focus on quality over
quantity, clean and simple interface, and eemphasis on real
conversations. It seems it's the kind of place I'd actually enjoy
spending time on again.
I'd really appreciate an invite if there's any room. I am also ready
to answer any questions or provide whatever info you need.
Thanks for keeping a corner of the internet sane.
Best Regards,
I think I just commented in the r/tildes thread. Either that, or PM'd someone who mentioned Tildes on reddit and said they were willing to send invitations.
Same for me, somehow managed to find my comment in one of the early invite threads (round 2).
Worked out okay.
That must've been the vibe in all the early invite threads because mine was
I can't remember what drew me to the tildes subreddit in the first place. It had to have been a post that reached /all or something like that.
I asked a guy on reddit. They gave me a link. This was during apigate
im so confused? are you posting this for someone else? you posted on tildes with a tildes account
anyways reddit is getting crazy, i created a new account and they shadowbanned me, all my comments are getting 0 views, anywas its full of engagement bait and bot shit
i feel stupider for posting there, and i cant afford to get any stupider then i already am lol
EDIT: i got 10 invites
They were saying to share the email you sent to originally request a Tildes account.
I don't remember if I sent one or not
My ancient account also got shadowbanned. It honestly made me sad because I shared tons of useful information over the years. I even had people message me thanking me for giving instructions on how to fix major medical issues. It was oddly specific info that doesn't exist anywhere else online, and it's all gone now.
I still lurk one small subreddit, but I've mostly cut back my internet forum usage.
might as well clear your name, even if you don’t want an account https://www.reddit.com/appeals
It'd be nice if that worked. They ignore the vast majority of appeals, even from ancient accounts.
I mod a ~2m sub and see a lot of false positive shadowbanned people and a good number have it overturned --- but reddit is anything but consistent when it comes to dealing with accounts.
It's not that your account was shadowbanned. It's that most subreddits have the automod remove comments that have too low karma, no verified email, etc. It's a giant pain in the ass.
nope my comments wernt even making it to automod, i got zero automod replies even
Mine was simpler than I remember.
Followed by Deimos sending an invite code and a link to the docs explaining the site mechanics.
Mine was also short and sweet
This was back in June 2023, I had to wait 10 days for a reply! Been lurking ever since...
Wow, March 2019. How time flies.
Deimos responded within 24 hours with an invite.
Though I admit I haven't participated as much as I wanted to, but I do lurk all the time.
May 2018 I sent the email, June 2018 got the invite code.
It was a DM to Deimos actually, from a now-deleted Reddit account where I said I liked the idea if an open source, slow-growth site that emphasized the content shared, not accolades for it IIRC.
I can't complete the assignment because I fed my homework to the dog.
Heh, mine was from 3 yr ago:
My opinion about tildes did not change, so, that's a win.
Like a few others, I just posted in one of the Reddit recruitment drives during the API debacle.
I think I wanted a like-for-like Reddit replacement initially, but quickly found that Tildes is far more to my taste.
I think it was sometime in late 2016, on my old deleted reddit account I got a PM from Deimos. I nuked that account long ago, but the gist of it was simple: "Hey, I made a better reddit software, wanna check it out?"
I remember thinking at the time with all the reddit alternatives popping up and dying, if there's even one worthwhile project in the pile of them worth betting on, this is it. The one designed and coded by the veteran moderator of /r/games, who also created automoderator, subreddit simulator, and reddit gold.
Tildes is still here, nearly all of those other projects collapsed. Just chilling until people decide they've had enough of corporate-run internet communities.
Mine was pretty short. Email to Deimos, APIgate:
I don't have mine.
I believe I stumbled absolutely by chance on @OBLIVIATER on Reddit and saw he/she was mod for subreddit and was mentioning moving to Tildes. Then I sent him/her a message on Reddit if I could get invitation for Tildes - I was likely mentining wanting to move from Reddit due to their actions that year and wanted to be part of smart web community that exists for itself and not for profit.
I don't use Reddit anymore, thus I don't have the message I said - it is probably in my "sent" there, but I don't really care that much.
And once again - thanks for sending me the invite, OBLIVIATER!
I received an invitation out of the blue, mid-2023 on Reddit. I wish I could go check what it said and paste it here, because I think it was a really nice description of the platform. But Reddit has since deleted everyone's PM's, so that's that. :/
During the APIcalypse. I'm not as active as I thought I'd be here because Deimos was backed up with requests and I got accepted to kbin (fediverse) first, so I was more settled in over there by the time my invite came through.
I jumped on with apigate from this thread: https://old.reddit.com/r/tildes/comments/1300j18/official_invite_requests_round_23_on_tildes_5th/ .. which is now locked and removed. heh.
Don't recall who invited me, but I'm sure it was totally not cfabbro.
Funny, I think that mine was a recommendation to check it out from somebody who knows Deimos, so I took them up on it.
First I emailed Deimos a couple of years back...
And it was cool too, but then roughly a year later I sent a pm on the [Lemmy-instance].
And that's how I got my invite, obviously I was wrong... I'm not just lurking, but almost.
I'm glad that worked, because my next option was to pm a tildes-member-namesake on steam hoping that wouldn't be too stalk-y!!

I'm confused by the mid-sentence newlines everywhere in your post. Was this manually justified in a text editor?
Gmail does that to your sent emails (I guess to make them mobile-friendly). I copied and pasted it from my sent messages. I assure you the original was composed normally.
