Should we have some sort of 'Tildes census' in a regular fashion?
So someone asked about which themes are used the most, and I went to check this
survey and then realized it was deleted and that no new surveys have been done since.
So are most of us interested in this becoming a formal and regular thing?
Yeah, definitely no Google or Facebook requirements, please.
That sounds fun and useful! I think it'd be helpful to keep a finger on the pulse of who's here. Maybe it could be used as a proxy for asking "who feels welcome here" if we track changes over time.
I think that would be a great idea, and considering the Christmas break is coming up, I wouldn't have a problem assembling our little census. I'd probably model it after the one linked in the post. Are there any suggestions for changes to the questionaire?
If you're doing this, I agree with @Keegan that we should shy away from Google Forms and instead use an independent, privacy focused site like forms.id
A good suggestion. I'll use pForms as forms.id didn't load for me once I logged in (tried multiple browsers).
I haven't seen the previous survey (was it deleted?) But my one meta-request is that multiple choice questions should have a "none of the above/question is ambiguous/it's complicated" option.
An "I prefer not to answer" option might also be good. Censuses like these scare off the privacy crowd (card-carrying member here, and I know there are others on Tildes) and should include a "decline" response for every question. I'd be up for answering some questions about my interests, but I'm always deliberate to avoid sharing details about my location, race, gender, economic status, family situation, etc.
Would love to see that! I'm especially interested as to how the OS demographics and regional demographics have changed over the past year.
I would definitely be interested in that. Should there be a census every six months like before, or more often?
I would like that! :)
