While I obviously can't speak for Deimos, I feel this change is probably not in line with the kind of design he intends for Tildes. Tildes grants a greater focus on user control and filtering, rather than algorithmic "boosting" factors. That seems more like a reddit change to drive engagement, which Deim has spoken out against.
Rather than notifications though, a select view for filtering popular posts (ala reddit's /r/popular) does seem like a reasonable enough ask. I'm not sure how difficult that would be to implement on the server-side.

If there was an additional option to display all groups, similar to reddit's /r/all, I think that would do what you want?
(as a workaround, in the absence of that feature, you could view that page signed out or in incognito mode to see what you're missing)
It feels like they're just describing the 'bubble up' feature that was floated a little while ago (having trouble finding a link), but yeah I think something like ~popular would be neat either...

Tildes has low traffic and because it requires invite, it's traffic won't have hockey stick curve. r/all will actually be a positive addition for Tildes, unlike Reddit. If and when Tildes reaches Reddit level of traffic, it can be re-analyzed.

Tildes already has a problem of majority voices talking over minorities. So even at this scale I think it's worth being careful how we handle ~all if we get it.

How about anything approached via ~all is read only? If you want to comment you have to go through specific board separately. It sounds amweird but it cuts down easy catch immediately, and if we're aiming to keep tildes friendly neighbourhood board then weird rule like this can get accepted too!

Agree. A combination of ~all with filters would be nice. An escape from my personal sandbox, if you will.

Tildes isn't reddit, but that doesn't mean we can't learn from it and how it's design decisions affect the site.
