i personally wouldn't watch it if you haven't read the book just because the book is iconic and it's just kind of a hard book to adapt to a miniseries or a movie, but the miniseries seems to be a pretty faithful adaptation and the critical consensus is that while it overdoes some things, it's pretty good overall. so yeah, probably.
