I saw some people in the reddit thread uncomfortable with the idea of assisted suicide being an option. For me, it's less that and more I have to imagine eternal life with access to anything you can think of wouldn't result in people becoming zombies. Think of all the ways people come up with to entertain themselves and others in real life. I can't imagine it would get stagnant when there are billions of other people you could interact with. You could play your favorite games in real life. Super-extended life / immortality has interested me for a long time so it feels hollow if the solution just ends up being "let everyone die for real this time".

I believe that they are going to tackle existentialism and are going for the idea that life doesn't have meaning and wanting to enter paradise (and avoid hell) is not what we should seek. Because we give ourselves meaning by the relations that we have and how we choose to spend our limited resources (like time).

Otherwise this concept of The Good Place is flawed, because any philosopher could have thought about the problem of leaving to define self meaning to ourselves. If this were a real Good Place it should give meaning to everyone that couldn't create it for themselves, it should adapt and change it giving everyone constant and eternal wonder and enjoyment. If True Freedom is a problem (as in, a cause of pain) then True Freedom shouldn't exist in The Good Place.

I like that they seem to be going for the idea that "you shouldn't seek meaning anywhere but in yourself". Like there's nothing external that could give you true meaning. What I don't like is that the solution to this flawed Good Place is to end existence.

Maybe in the grand finale they'll come out with an idea similar to The Egg, and crossing the door would mean forget everything and start over. One thing they never explained was where new people came from, so there is a possibility.

I think that both problems are the same thing, and without the impending threats of death and harm and no real obligations, you might as well have anything you want.

With one series finale left in the tank and the thesis of the Good Place being a meaningless happyland without a way out, I'm going to make a wild jump and saying that the way out is going to be a big feature of the final episode.

Also, the Good Place committee are surprisingly duplicitous, maybe the ennui of no consiquences got to them too and that's why they're nowhere near as moral as they should be?

I wonder if their whole being ineffectual was just a way of trying to get Michael and the Soul Squad to take over.

I want to know where they scarpered off to. Did they join Shawn and Vicky in the Bad Place demon pantheon?

Good question. There's a whole infinity of places they could have gone.
