Only tangentially related, and not worth making a new topic for, but I still wanted to share it anyways:
Ridley Scott Pins ‘The Last Duel’ Bombing on Apathetic Millennials

When it arrived exclusively in theaters in late October, 20th Century’s The Last Duel, starring Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer and Ben Affleck, cratered ($27 million worldwide off a $100 million budget).

Scott’s explanation for the horrible box office performance? Apathetic millennials.

“I think what it boils down to — what we’ve got today [are] the audiences who were brought up on these fucking cellphones. The millennian [sic] do not ever want to be taught anything unless you’re told it on a cellphone,” Scott said.

“This is a broad stroke, but I think we’re dealing with it right now with Facebook,” Scott added. “This is a misdirection that has happened where it’s given the wrong kind of confidence to this latest generation, I think.”

Scott said he stood firmly by The Last Duel, and the decision-making process at the studio was solid throughout.

ಠ_ಠ - Released "exclusively in theaters" during a still ongoing pandemic, but somehow it's the fault of cellphone addicted millennials and Facebook that his movie bombed? Uh huh. Sure.

I love most of Scott's work, and can't wait to see The Last Duel once it gets out of the theaters, but my God, the man is such an insufferable, egotistical, out of touch, arsehole.

The funniest thing is, I wasn't even aware of it being screened in theaters. I remember watching the trailer, but that's it.

This is the first time anyone has brought up a Blade Runner show! Could be great, bland, boring, or absolutely dreadful.

cc: @moocow1452 Yes, but I imagine he is talking more of a live-action show, not the anime (which has been rather subpar, to put it lightly, and wish they had just adapted the comic series).

Yeah... I don't watch "3D CGI anime" as a matter of principle, but mostly because frankly they look like shit.

I was the same until those two shows, now I can see the potential for it. The backgrounds, world building, are so much more in depth when combined with CG animation.

Saw a few scenes of Godzilla, from different points of the movie. It is well done. It certainly helps that characters don't move much and are frequently sitting looking at screens that take much of the frame. They're often glorified talking heads.

Explosions are predictable in their path and scream "this was made on a computer".

The excessive smoothness and regularity of the motion is greatly reduced in comparison to other shows, but it's still there and still bothers me. The characters are like unemotional androids even when they're supposed to be emotional. Lifeless in comparison to even a run-of-the-mill traditional style anime.

I wonder if a well done CGI anime is that much cheaper than a regular one. Is it really worth the loss in expressiveness?

A mixed approach would be preferable to my taste.

I don't know if it's your type of story but I really liked Houseki no Kuni. It's fully 3D but it works really well for that story. The manga was great too. I binged it after finishing the anime.

Are the characters CGI? Cause if not, than yes, I might like it.

Overall, it's hard to tell what's CGI and what's hand drawn, and I mean that in a good way; the CGI and blending is done very well. I think the general approach they took was to do things in 3D, but be more than willing to use 2D when the former looks wonky or "wrong". So, for example, almost all of the facial expressions are 2D. Environments are a mix, from what I remember. I think the character bodies and hair are generally CGI, which works well because they're all
