This game presses ALL the right buttons in my brain. The concept is so simple (draw cards, add multipliers), but the execution is incredible. Even the shop is fun.

I'm back on Assassin's Creed Origins.

I started to play last summer on the Steam Deck, then forgot about it for months and only picked it up again a few weeks ago on my desktop. It can be played for short sessions of 30 minutes and there's always something to do, though I'm trying to not let myself too distracted by the side quests and collect-a-thons. Overall this game is a nice surprise: the AC Ezio trilogy are among my favorite games, and AC3 and 4 were huge disappointments. I did not expect to like another AC game, but Origins has a likeable protagonist and the story is "good enough" for a video game.

Lots of places to explore and things to do without getting bored (yet), action, stealth, a crafting system that doesn't require a boring grind, casual enough to not get frustrated... I can't ask more of an AAA game.

Budget wise, €300 is the max I could invest. The M8 and polyend look cool but are quite expensive

After (too) many years, I reinstalled Towerfall on a whim, to play with the kids and wife. And damn is this game still excellent. Zero time to setup, 3 buttons, and here we go. I recommend to use the "unlock all" cheat code to get all characters and levels without grinding solo for hours; it's a party game after all.

You can assign as many bonuses or maluses on individual players to even the field, which allowed my 5 years old daughter to win a game.

We played on the Switch, but if you own it on PC, it works very well with "Steam Remote Play Together" for online sessions (if all players have a controller).

Souls games definitely have their own set of implied rules, and they purposefully don't teach them to the player. Apparently it's part of their charm, but it awfully looks like gatekeeping. I find that quite terrible because while I really like the genre (Bloodborne my beloved), you can miss entire parts of the game & gameplay if you're not the kind of player who obsessively try and read everything.

And mind you, Elden Ring is the most player-friendly game of the lot.

he is crushing his physical and cognitive milestones way ahead of schedule, but he has a handful of social milestones he hasn't hit yet.

I've been told that kids don't progress at the same pace in all areas, and I've seen both my children grow differently despite being in the same environment. Your kid can very well walk super early and wait until he's in preschool to communicate clearly, at 6 months old that's not a real concern.

Edit: also, you'll always be sick. Always. Don't believe people who say "oh he'll built his immunity in school", that's a lie. He'll come back with a cold and pass it to everyone. Good luck.

I upgraded my PC this weekend, from a 1060 GTX to a 4060 RTX, and spent a few hours playing... Deep Rock Galactic Survivor, the autoshooter spinoff of DRG. For an early access, it's already quite enjoyable.

I tried to activate the ray tracing in a few games and honestly I'm not impressed. I couldn't manage to keep the vsync enabled and the added input latency made everything floaty. All that for a few pretty lighting effects, definitely not worth it.

Upgrades used to feel exciting because new games were genuinely prettier. Nowadays they're just more demanding, and I think we passed some point of diminishing returns for graphics.

Changing the UI, yes. Changing the whole control scheme so that you can fully use a mouse on the PC version of a multiplatform game is kinda rare

It isn't uncommon for a game to change elements of its UI to match the player's chosen input method either.

I've been playing Helldivers 2, exclusively with a friend.

While I can totally enjoy a game of Deep Rock Galactic in solo or with randoms, I have absolutely no desire to launch Hellldivers by myself. DRG is something I enjoy casually (usually in "Danger 3" out of 5), but IMO Helldivers really shines when it's chaos... which is only fun and less draining (and frustrating) when you're laughing with a friend as he has to mercy kill you because the game is bugging and you cannot move after opening a valve or something.

More of a game-making tool than a game, the first alpha of Picotron was released 3 days ago.

In short, it's a "fantasy workstation", a sort of retro self-contained OS (it still runs on top of your "real" OS) that you can hack and create games with in Lua. Kinda hard to describe as there isn't anything quite like it. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, except regular users of PICO-8 or TIC-80, because it's a real alpha 0.1 version: it's broken, buggy, lacks any real documentation and a ton of features... but if you know what you're getting into, it's fun and I can definitely see its potential.

If you want something solid to teach yourself (or your kids!) programming, go take a look at PICO-8 ($15, awesome community) or TIC-80 (free OSS, smaller community).
