I am vaguely involved in getting flowers for employees/ex-employees when deaths happen at my current company. Even if the funeral home doesn't offer services, getting flowers to funeral homes from public orders is very much a service that every flower shop offers. If local flower shops don't have public order systems, there are several services that operate that will figure out how to get flowers ordered or delivered for an upcharge.

It would be pretty easy to get hold of one of the big flower services and hook into their ordering system. It seems like adding about half a dozen too many middlemen to the equation to me, or at least used to. When you see the use case of a large company that needs to order flowers every week or two to any of hundreds of funeral homes and getting flowers from any of hundreds of florists, it makes sense to spend an extra $25 and not waste more time on it.

While I have no doubt that you are correct that the site scrapes "real" obituary sites and republishes the information, I am curious why you think that flower orders and such would not be fulfilled.

Given that the funeral information is likely quite easy to get hold of, and people "drop shipping" flowers to funerals being an extremely common practice, it seems like it would be a much better business strategy to just plug into both ends "legitimately" and actually get orders placed.

I am subscribed, but I don't watch it as much as I would like.

Honestly, I get annoyed at the site when I load it up. I was hoping that it would be a place where I could see less of the clickbaity crap that ends up on YouTube. It is absolutely filled with channels that post the exact same video and thumbnail to both places.

Worst of all, I can't even just block the channels from showing up. When I see a particularly annoying thumbnail on YouTube, I can use the built in function to never show me anything by that channel again. I use that feature a lot. When I open Nebula right now, I am met with a picture of a Gatorade bottle pointed at a slab of meat. I would block that thumbnail and channel immediately if they had a button. Slightly further, I see a bunch of videos with titles like "A TOTALLY normal day in the NAVY" and "72hrs aboard an ACTIVE NAVY SHIP" and I have absolutely no desire to see a video creator that feels the need to scream in the title regularly, but I can't just block that either.

Just below that there is another link to the exact same video creator under a "channels you might have missed" header. There is no way to tell the system that I didn't miss them, I actively avoided them.

Overall the videos on the site are pretty good and absolutely worth the $5 a month. I am mostly paying for the principle rather than the value though. Increasing the feature set would go a long way in getting me to use it more regularly.

It is only as unethical as it is to throw away junk mail when getting your mail from your mailbox.

If they decide to make only authorized clients able to watch video, I will stop using the service. Until then, I will take the bundle of data they hand me and take the relevant parts that I care about in exactly the same way that I take out the relevant mail from my mailbox and pitch the rest.

When I am in a meeting and someone makes their point(s) clearly and concisely, there is nothing worse than someone just trying to fill the silence by reiterating their point(s) while everyone else is trying to finish processing what was said.

If you are adding to the conversation (by asking clarifying questions, or expanding on some aspect of what was said) then there is no issue with me. If you are adding words for the sake of adding words because the mute icon makes you uncomfortable, I think you should try to reconsider.

He smiled, then said that many would wind up as bedrooms. This is technically forbidden, because in New York City every bedroom must have a window that can be opened, but it’s a widespread practice nonetheless.

    Yeah, this tracks.

This developer isn't doing something impressive and clever, he is knowingly ignoring code. Building codes exist for a reason and we should not applaud blatant ignoring of it.

What an odd claim. The company as an entity can't physically do anything. A company can't sign off on inspection records, only a person can. A company is an umbrella sitting atop peoples' actions and ideas so the legal system has a way to handle them as a collective.

When workers as part of standard process are falsifying records, then the company is falsifying records.

The idea that all of the good things that can come out of a company are "the company's fault" and the bad things are "the fault of individual workers" is absurd.

Exactly my point. If there are no laws, or no enforcement of laws, there is an incentive to abuse the service.

This finagling out of responsibilities to save a penny is reprehensible.

Yeah, but the race to the bottom is filled with reprehensible behavior. We need to make rules on how to have a functional society because of this.

Spirit of the law means nothing to business owners in America does it?

No, because the spirit of the law is irrelevant. The letter of the law is the rule and you make less money by limiting yourself to the spirit.

Serious question here - why would a business not use a free service that exempts them from liability and costs?

The business doesn't care if firefighters are preoccupied with inane calls. It isn't a line on their expense report. Making an argument about it being immoral or unethical is just talking to a wall. Businesses, especially elderly care businesses, don't care about that.

Charge them absurd amounts and make it stop.

When I was younger my family used a pellet furnace. I hated that thing.

    • The pellets always burned better on the right side than the left side, despite all of the fiddling we could possibly do with the air intake. This meant that there was a bunch of buildup of poorly-burned pellets that would end up spilling over during the course of the day.

    • Cleaning it out was a chore. During the windiest parts of winter, dealing with a pile of ashes was a mess at best.

    • The auger would end up jamming for seemingly no reason. We would back it up half a turn and it would go on its merry way, but this was only fixed after we noticed it getting colder.

Maybe we had crappy pellets. Maybe our house wasn't good for it for some reason. Maybe we just had a crappy burner. All of that said, we kept using it for several years so it must have been very cheap to run.

I use 1password, which does everything you mention after installing the browser extension. It is not free, but it is not wildly expensive.

My favorite feature is that my family has a set up where I have my passwords, my wife has her passwords, my grandparents have their passwords, and my family has our shared passwords (for anything kid related or for Nebula or utities or whatever). When I search for passwords, I can see mine and our shared ones, but I cannot see my wife's. I can also see my grandparents' vault but it is not my default set to search from.

One of the biggest reasons to believe that this system works well is that my grandparents use it. They are not technologically inclined. I just installed it for them and set it up and they press the "use password from 1password" button, or "save to 1password" when relevant.

If you are a power user or only have your own passwords to manage, a free one might be more appropriate. If you are in charge of other people's information, I think 1password is very nice.
