This seems like my kind of weirdo scifi but man does it also look visually disjointed and somewhat lacking in scope (that I assume it's going for). It's like a mix of low and high budget.

It's an interesting thought experiment isn't it? Let's take Dragon Age as an example. Single player fantasy RPG. What kind of advertising could thematically fit there? Nothing, unless you go really meta with something like a magical portal to our world and use that as an excuse to spam ads somewhere in the UI or in-game world. Maybe you could put some text or lightly illustrated notifications onto a notification board. But even that seems suuper scummy and in the way.

It's probably just natural to explore different revenue streams. Though, I'm not sure anyone's gotten rich with their in-app advertising? Even mobile games are always about the whales. So I'm not sure how viable 'good' advertising could be. There's probably not that many Super Bowl level million dollar advertising deals and they'll just end up accepting anyone to their ad platform which probably will turn it to shit unless well excecuted.

Having your pause menu plastered with advertisements will always be obstructive but obviously it's a possibility that people get used to them. But in my opinion that's just super cheap and ineffective (because it's almost hostile towards the player) compared to more natural ways to surface brands.

Yeah, I realized that my comment read as if I meant summer this year, when I meant the next. I guess you didn't catch my edit.

Why I don't think (like you don't seem to either) it won't be this year, is that I don't believe they have games ready for the launch. It's not like Switch's release was stacked though I suppose there's a new Mario in the pipeline, as well as Smash and Mario Kart.

Now that I think about it, it's been ages since those series had new entries so they might aim for a fall release after all? Weren't there rumors that the system was ready but they had manufacturing problems? So maybe Christmas rush makes sense after all?

Nintendo President Shinto Furukawa shared on social media that "we will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year," which ends on March 31, 2025.

I'd expect the system to hit the shelves during summer at the latest. It gives them time to get the enthusiasts out of the way before Christmas sales and anyway as soon as that announcement makes "Switch 2" official, it'll start cannibalizing the sales of Switch.

Edit. Summer next year, I mean. But what do I know, I'm less sure with my guess now that I realized summer's not even here yet.

Afaik, it was stated somewhere on the Steam page (in a small but not invisible print) that they'll be requiring PSN accounts in the future.

That being said, what a dumb ass move to release the game in unsupported countries. Also dumb to bait and switch the account requirement, they should've pushed the release if it was that important.

A smarter move would've been to offer some incentives to link your PSN account voluntarily, like an item or maybe monthly payment of in-game currency. They still should do that and probably give a little little to everyone as an apology.

I'm also pretty sure folks are aware that consumers don't like Epic but are you now saying you're boycotting Unreal Engine games or what?

Could you use some examples to demonstrate your point because as is, it's just something I should take your word for? You say Epic is predatory but I'm not understanding how? Sounds like you have an axe to grind on the consumer side, which is whatever to me. And now Tencent's ownership stake is the reason it's bad? Why is it so bad to choose Unreal over Unity?

If it's because you don't want to support Epic because of how they choose to run their store -- fine. Or because Tencent is Chinese -- fine. But just say that.

Yeah, they're in their enshittification phase. The devs they managed to swindle back after their last fuck up probably should reconsider if possible since the future seems bleak.

That's a pretty good way to explain it but so is Lucy. The show has two fish out of water characters but Lucy is more interesting because she actually shows self-reliance whereas Max is just stumbling his way through everything. That combined with him being selfish and a bit spineless at the start left a pretty sour taste in my mouth. He's a hero in a way that anyone might luck into being, with a tank wrapped around him. And he's also dumb which isn't an appealing trait.

That said, he's a fine character to have in the show, it'll be interesting to see how they use him in the upcoming season(s).
