It's unfortunate how the labor laws have effected farming since farmers can't just raise prices to cover increased labor costs since the prices farmers get back are usually fixed in place by the handful of national grocers.

I started a new run at Valheim with some friends now that the Ashlands update is in testing. While the beginning of the game hasn't changed much I still find it super fun to build and explore. Since we know the game pretty well by now we often get over confident and get punished for it hard.

As soon as we found the trader I grabbed all the cash we had, jumped on a raft to make a greedy solo run to the trader and quickly got eaten by a serpent in the middle of the ocean. Totally deserved it!

We eventually got some iron gear and my friends discovered they could easily take on Fulings near the plains border so they decided to go explore a village and got completely steamrolled by the larger group there. Several deaths and lost boats later they finally got most of their gear back.

We've had a ton of fun and close calls taking on some of the mini-boss quests for Hildir. Really looking forward to getting through the mistlands again and seeing all the FUN awaiting us in the Ashlands. Hopefully I can keep avoiding all the spoilers for it online.

Halting aging would change our entire perspective on what kinds of projects are feasible in a lifetime. But first we'd have to deal with population controls and resource scarcity issues. If we manage to solve that then there's all kinds of possibilities from dedicated individuals making scientific discoveries, creating massive art projects, or even traveling between stars.

I wonder if we could reduce rent prices by having more cities in the US implement an Empty House Tax like they did in Vancouver BC. Even if it didn't it would at least be more income for cities to help find solutions for the rising number of homeless. Having livable but empty property just sitting as asset dumps seems like a big part of the problem.

Nah it's pretty easy to miss since when you're looking for ways to block content you look for options like "ignore" or "hide" but "define top tag filters" doesn't make much sense out of context. I think it's mentioned in the new user docs but by the time you need it you've probably forgotten about it. So yeah, definitely keep the post up for others.

I think the correct action here is to go into your account settings and click on "Define topic tag filters" and add "politics". That's what I did and I never see any of them.

Yield isn't the issue with most apples, it's almost always about shelf life. We grew an experimental apple variety for a couple decades called Dulcet that has wonderful texture and flavor but it could not hold up to storage conditions so the commercial distributors wouldn't touch it.

Heirloom varieties are often valued because they are not covered by patents that prevent reproduction though many people just like the traditional flavors.

If you don't want to think about it much then PopOS is great. If you want it simple but don't mind customizing things a bit then Mint is great. If you want a more office work oriented system I find Debian's KDE images work really well.

Really though unless you're dealing with hardware that is 10+ years old then the different distros and desktop environments will all perform about the same out of the box. I definitely recommend trying a few different distro live images to see what fits your taste.

I didn't play the original but I tried the Shapez 2 demo and it felt pretty solid. My only complaint was the copy/paste required spending game credits which given how often I mess up felt rather punishing. I might try it again when it's out of early access, could be fun.

Mindustry is also pretty well designed, though the simple graphics take some getting used to.

They all seem to follow similar logistical challenges: build conveyors to move products around and improve them. I'm hoping to try more games that deal with structural challenges, the bridge building games aren't bad but most I've tried feel like set puzzle games with limited design solutions.
