That's exactly the bet the authoritarian candidate is taking; that enough people will refuse to vote for the incumbent. Look, I get it - I really do; I'm still bitter for not even getting to vote in the primary in 2020 because our state wasn't in the handful of those that get to vote in the primary early (which is messed up, primaries should happen nationally). Had Dems elected Sanders we would have made a lot more progress against plenty of the issues that plague us simply for the difference in values and veracity.

But the opposition is literally thirsty for a shot at killing our American Experiment, at becoming the supreme ruler. To me this is more born from the effect caused by a party who's so wholly bent on obtaining power they put up candidates like Trump - forcing a two-party system to much more resemble a one-party system for most rational voters.

I'm angry at the Right Wing for putting us into this position, which they do because they are confident they've got a shot due to enough on the left feeling left out. They are confident their candidate can win. The way I see it we need to show them candidates like that have horrible turn out - so much so they stop thinking this is a path to success - and put up less extremist candidates.

And if they win as a result of people not voting for the incumbent then everything I care about will become worse. Palestinians will be worse off. Ukrainians will be worse off. Our action on climate change will be worse off. Our wealth disparity will be worse off. Or democracy, if it survives, will be worse off.

It's not blue no matter who for me - it's Biden vs Trump. History has already showed us what someone like Trump does after returning to power.

That assumes Biden will still win regardless. Or if you think Trump would be swayed... I have a bridge to sell you.

    Just finished the Netflix series.

I'm completely disregarding the original material and am solely speaking from what the show has presented.

But the whole "Trisolarians can't lie" is 100% bullshit. I might go so far as to say it's questionable they're actually from a 3 body system (or maybe once were), but use that as a manipulative tactic to help goad the more intelligent to welcome them.

They act as if story telling as a concept is unknown to them but they make a game that is extremely socially manipulative in order to get people to accept and welcome their coming (as opposed to defending against an invasion).

They act as if manipulating people into thinking something that's not real is real (a lie) is an unknown concept, but they're actively deceiving our perceptions of reality on a regular basis, whether it's our experimental results, our own sky, or even what we think we see with our own two eyes. They're master manipulators.

The first communication admits that they're extremely capable and confident they'd wipe out our civilization despite not knowing anything about us, which speaks to frequency. They've done this before, they've gone out and conquered other civilizations and that's built confidence. To act like they're simply looking for safe harbor IS A F*CKING LIE.

I still haven't seen the far right he's been pandering to actually buy his products, but I've seen plenty of his original base cancel reservations because they didn't want to support that kind of behavior. I wish the board would remove him. Plenty of talented people in those companies that deserve better.

ENS and Peepeth were two efforts I was paying attention to. Both leveraged these new approaches for different but equally positive potential advancements for the general public. However between Peepeth slowly discovering that web3 was a needless bottle neck and backed away from it for most of it's functions, and ENS pivoting away from the low-cost automated smart contact solution it began as to be more centrally managed and having to financially support that management - I've considered the web3 experiment mostly dead. Not to mention the gas costs rising so much that it increasingly made web3 inaccessible to most users. I was really hopeful for the potential of blockchain and automated trust-less smart contacts. But every application I've seen that could have been popular by providing a useful service, has become a dud.

Completely agree with this piece. To make substantial and crucial progress, we need more than what LLMs can alone provide. We need something that can "continue to" learn and correct itself. Personally I think that will come with further research & development; it's simply a matter of time. But we certainly don't have that now, and to act like we do, while good for marketing, is harmful to users.

To me it felt more of the "AI take our jobs, AI bad" tripe. And I love John Stewart. This episode felt like poorly thought out filler. Worse, that this mind set gets an enormous amount of people to focus on the wrong problem to their own detriment.

Would have loved him to bend the narrative arc to the real enemy - the exploitive rich. Focus on our need to decouple human value from profit generation - perhaps even shed light on Sander's 4-day work week, something our tech advancements should have allowed decades ago. Lots of opportunity that was just left on the table...
