I've unlocked the hint rooms that I know will lead to more cubes, but the backtracking is so painful. There's too many doors on every map, and I need to remember the routes to get to each puzzle, and it's not fun going back and checking every map. If there were more fast travel points that might help

That sure sounds like a legit reason to want some achievements! I also hope I didn't come across as judgy or condescending, I wasn't trying to pat myself on the back and say this is the One True Way. Needless to say, everyone has their own way of gaming, there's nothing wrong or bad about achievements, and I fully understand how great it feels to 100% a game and have that official indicator of what you've finished along the way

It's a small compromise we need to make with the Deck, achievements vs convenience, no one right answer... aside from Valve straight up fixing the problem lol

Funnily enough, Steam Deck has weaned me off caring about achievements as much. I felt exactly the same as you, wanting to pick and choose so that my achievements would pop, but especially with alternative game stores where achievements were broken on Deck entirely, that made me start to prioritize the actual enjoyment of my games, and focusing on the convenience factor of the Deck, not on the inconvenience factor. I don't have to stop playing this game because no wifi, I don't have to restart games to get the achievements to pop, I just play them, use sleep mode as god intended, and be content. I came to my senses that literally nobody, even or especially the ones closest to me, care about my game achievements, and neither should I. I've been playing through some longer games, not exactly a fit for the Backlog Burner, thanks to this mentality

I'm basking in the afterglow of Disco Elysium. It took a while to get into at first, but when I figured out what the game was even about, it clicked. Then when I figured out what the game was really about, it clicked again. That game clicked so hard with me. I'm going to miss it!

The multitude of dialogue options were overwhelming at first, until I realized it's a way to ask the player questions about themselves. I didn't have to pick every option, and I felt better by skipping some options entirely. It was pretty disco

Epic exclusives probably aren't allowed to talk about exclusivity terms, I've never seen a publisher mention "coming to Steam in a year" while being Epic exclusive

I appreciate the review, that's just the balanced take I was looking for! You're probably right, 20-30 range I could stomach, I don't play many fighting games and wanted one I could really get into potentially, and a few friends are really into Tekken... but $50 for a game I'm on the fence on, is hard when most other games I buy are $10 on sale

I'll bet a lot of people really did have fun at launch, with all the hype and everyone learning the game together. I'll wait and hope they fix it up again

Any fighting game players have an opinion on whether it's worth buying right now? Is it an enjoyable game online? I've heard a lot of problems with the online play, and some people complain the gameplay itself is pretty bad, all offense and mashing apparently? Is this all true? It's hard to get a level headed take tbh

I don't think we can say for sure who to point fingers at, or that it matters, but to put some numbers on it from the Japan National Tourism Organization, the top countries sending tourists to Japan in March 2024 are

    1. South Korea 663,100
    2. Taiwan 484,400
    3. China 452,400
    4. United States 290,100
    5. Hong Kong 231,400

Even though China isn't the #1 tourism source anymore like they were in 2019, I don't think being #3 means we can say "and therefore" when talking about this topic. Understandably the authorities there are choosing diplomacy over name and shame

We went to see the Spy x Family Code White movie in the theater. It was about what I expected from having seen the TV series. I can tell a lot of it is written for a kid friendly audience, but we went to a later showtime, so mostly adults, and it was a good time! It felt like the animation was higher quality than the TV show, even though a lot of it did feel like watching more episodes of the show, which isn't a criticism by any means

Overnight oats, tasty is subjective but it works for us! Serving two people:

2/3 cup rolled oats, 2 tbsp flaxseed, 1 tbsp chia seeds. Put it in a small mason jar. Fill up the jar with low fat oat milk to about 275 mL which is about 9 fl. oz. That's it!

Next day add bananas or berries if we're feeling fancy

It got me thinking, since these stories are all about in person coworkers, and they're all about spending time with each other in the same room. I ought to put more effort into my face to face relationships too. Not necessarily coworkers though lol. Call up some old friends out of state and plan a get together sometime, I could use that for sure

Now that you mention it, it's interesting comparing Ghost in the Shell and Psycho-Pass, both by Production I.G. They're two completely different takes on sci-fi, one is a dingy crime-riddled cyberpunk city, the other an AI assisted utopia. I've been watching Psycho-Pass and it resonates, I mean it's a contemporary and still ongoing story, so it obviously has that going for it

Ghost in the Shell and Blade Runner and those stories, must have reflected the times especially the 1980s where city crime, violence and drugs were a big problem. The authors could have imagined what would happen taking those problems and adding technology to it, what would that look like.

Psycho-Pass explores different issues of today, where so much has moved digital, and the nature of problems is more along the lines of control and influence, less so physical violence.

That's helpful that you followed up and mapped out how Boogiepop's production was done, it makes me want to continue!

When you say it's down to a 9/10, with the visuals, does that mean they try a little too hard with the artsy presentation? By explicitly stated exposition, do you mean how some storytellers reveal the mystery, but then say it out loud? They break the "show, don't tell" rule? If they do that, I see how that would mar the overall package

I've watched half of the 2000 Boogiepop Phantom, and it starts out making no sense, but makes more and more sense with each episode. I wonder if they did it that way on purpose to give it more mystery. I didn't know about the 2019 series, the whole presentation gives it definite rewatch potential, I don't think the order matters that much. It's not the type of storytelling I'd strive for full understanding the first time through

The official marketing is plenty edgy, look at the Steam page:

"To survive, you must tread carefully and make difficult choices...even if that means eating your own Pals when the time comes."

"Want to build a pyramid? Put an army of Pals on the job. Don't worry; there are no labor laws for Pals."

"Letting Pals do the work is the key to automation. Build a factory, place a Pal in it, and they'll keep working as long as they're fed—until they're dead, that is."

"With Pals on your side you can tackle even the most dangerous areas. When the time comes, you might have to sacrifice one to save your skin. They'll protect your life—even if it costs their own."

"Endangered Pals live in wildlife sanctuaries. Sneak in and capture rare Pals to get rich quick! It's not a crime if you don't get caught, after all."
