Let's be real; we're all waiting on the edges of our seats to see how this unfolds.

I wasn't being sarcastic, I genuinely couldn't tell if you were serious. I will read the links later when I get some time.

So let me guess, you think it's all BS? You think these high ranking officials are spinning a yarn for kicks?

These retired not really high ranking officials? That happen to be the only people who have knowledge of this? Yes I think they’re getting their 15 minutes

It reminds me of some videos the pentagon released a few years ago that made their way around the msm as proof of aliens but was just birds and the like. It turns out military pilots don't know how their gun cameras operate, just how to use them.

So the ship radar picked up birds dropping from 80,000ft to sea level in a matter of seconds? The fighter pilots who saw the UFO with their own eyes, in addition to on their cameras, were delusional?

I think there’s potentially some natural phenomena that we don’t know about that will blow our minds. But it’s also very telling that the evidence always exists in the fringes of video and photo recordings. The evidence is always blurry and hard to interpret. Probably because the same phenomena captured with good cameras is clearly of nothing important, and when captured by worse sensors it doesn’t look like anything at all. So through the decades the evidence that isn’t an outright fabrication is always just a little too blurry. There have been enough cases of mistaken shadows and reflections to require quite a lot of proof to excite me.

What doesn’t make any noise and moves across the background faster than physically possible? Purely optical phenomena.

I'm confused, is chuck Schumer the one making these claims? My understanding was that he was just supporting the bill to release UFO info, not that he claimed to have personal knowledge of this stuff.

I'm not aware of any data suggesting UFO sightings have fallen off. If anything, they seem more prevalent now, likely due to how frequently things like rocket launches or satellites are mistaken for UFOs. However, I have recently had some rather interesting conversations with co-workers after bringing up the UFO topic, and was surprised to learn that several of them had had sightings/experiences that were quite compelling.

this is a Newsweek article...that cites a Daily Mail article as a source? it's a Newsweek article about a Daily Mail article...about a Powerpoint presentation? so we have the "catastrophic"...

Colonel Karl E. Nell called on a Stanford University conference for a "campaign plan" that would force greater transparency and a "Manhattan project" to reverse engineer recovered UFOs or Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), the Daily Mail reported on Tuesday.

this is a Newsweek article...that cites a Daily Mail article as a source?

Slides presented by Col. Nell and published by the Mail showed Nell's hopes that disclosure about UAP would be achieved by October 1, 2030, admitting there was "risk" that his timeline targets could fall behind.

    it's a Newsweek article about a Daily Mail article...about a Powerpoint presentation?

The Mail's report on the Sol Foundation event did not directly quote Nell's concerns around "catastrophic disclosure" but summarized that preventing the release of information could sow discord from the likes of independent actors or U.S. foreign rivals.

so we have the "catastrophic" attention-grabbing headline...but apparently no quotes of what he actually said?

quoting from, jebus help me, the Daily Mail article:

But, first and foremost, Col. Nell described his proposal as an effort to 'avoid catastrophic disclosure,' meaning a chaotic release of Earth-shattering revelations designed to sow discord, whether by independent actors or by one of the United States' foreign rivals.

Betteridge's law definitely applies here. he is not presenting any evidence that the US is on the verge of a "catastrophic" leak. he's just bringing it up as a worst-case scenario.

The "Daily Mail" source is irrelevant. The conference that the article references (the Sol Foundation conference at Harvard) was real and the information provided about it accurate. The mainstream news has been slow on the uptake, and Daily Mail beat them to the punch. As for whether we're on the verge of a leak, we just had a whistleblower testify to congress about the US having in its possession crashed UFO vehicles. If correct, there are almost certainly others out there with knowledge of that fact who could also blow the whistle.

Karl Nell's unbelievably distinguished background and his backing of David Grusch by calling him "beyond reproach" and that his assertions concerning the existence of a terrestrial arms race occurring clandestinely over the past eighty years focused on reverse engineering technologies of unknown origin is "fundamentally correct" along with the knowledge that at least some of these technologies "derive from non-human intelligence" is pretty incredible.

His leaked slide from his talk at the Sol Foundation was interesting, seems like if the Schumer amendment passes there'll be some form of disclosure within the next few years.

I would like to believe we're not alone and while I find it hard to believe that aliens have discovered our planet and have visited it, I understand that I'm viewing this through the lense of my current understanding of what may be possible. Doesn't stop me remaining skeptical though.

Given we've gone from the very first flight to biplanes, to fighter planes, to supersonic jets in 120 years is incredible. What will we achieve in another hundred, thousand, ten thousand years, it may as well be magic to me.

Sometimes I simply like to stick my Mulder hat on and have a bit of fun with this subject though and imagine.

I like your perspective. If more thought along those lines, we'd probably already have disclosure. The unwillingness to even look into the topic exhibited by the mainstream is a major factor as to why it has been possible to keep it quiet (which should be obvious, but this irony seems lost on most).

After the inaugural conference of the Sol Foundation (academic/policy group focusing on the UFO phenomenon and its societal/technological implications), it really looks as if the UFO topic is finally moving out of the fringe and into the mainstream. I would recommend looking into the background of Karl E Nell, who gave a presentation at the conference (referenced in this article) on a plan for controlled disclosure of UFO information over the next decade. I would also recommend looking into the Chuck Schumer UFO legislation that is currently being considered for addition to the 2024 NDAA (here is the full text of that amendment).
