Do you have a good explainer for how that all worked? I’m curious, because I’ve only heard the bailout part, not how we (the taxpayers via the federal government) got paid back.

True. But the point is that they already have a way to have physical controls in the car interact with CarPlay. I have to imagine that Apple/Google engineers were smart enough to make that a two way street. So it would just be up to the car makers to enable access to the required systems so they can be controlled from within CarPlay.

Give a chronically late movie star an assistant to manage their time and you know what you get? A chronically late movie star and a frazzled assistant.

A good chunk of it definitely is on him, but a lot of it could be avoided with an assistant to make sure stuff is on track - the article mentions other commitments and traffic lead to a two hour delay for a thing... only commit to one thing, leave earlier.

When you make studios billions of dollars, they’re willing to put up with quite a lot. And people working on the movies know that if it comes down to them or Johnson, the studio will pick Johnson every single time. So they’d rather not be a squeaky wheel and get a major credit under their belt.

This quote stuck out to me. That’s a lot of words to say, “I’m not racist but…” and we all know full well that when you hear that statement, someone is about to say some racist shit.

What they’re arguing, then, is that it’s not that many rural whites (to reiterate, not all, but many) are racist per se, it’s just that they think nonwhites don’t work hard, aren’t self-reliant, and are the clients of nefarious “elites.”

I purchased a house six years ago. In that time, our insurance cost has nearly tripled.

I was told by my insurance company last year that they would not renew my flood coverage even though I live in an "area of minimal flood hazard" according to FEMA. Due to the age of our house (it was built in 1980), no one will cover it.

We had to get our state run insurance of last resort. It has deductible that's twice what our previous plan was, in addition to a co-insurance percentage of the damages we have to pay. It also has a much lower maximum payout. And it costs four times as much. Oh, and our state's insurance system is borderline insolvent, so who knows if they'll even be able to pay if something major happens that impacts a large swath of people.

Regarding 2, I disagree. I’m one of those people who paid off my loans (took me nearly 10 years) but just because I had to suffer with the financial burden of student loan debt doesn’t mean I want others to. I’ll be happy for those who get their loans forgiven and get a better chance at financially succeeding than I did.

They sneak up on you and you don’t want to be scrambling to find the money and have to just buy the cheapest replacement you can afford or have to result to terrible financing options to keep your house in good shape.

Dan Ackroyd’s original script for The Blues Brothers was nearly 400 pages before Landis edited it down.

Home Assistant is the way to go. It has tons of integrations, including Zigbee/Z-Wave and Apple HomeKit. Any accessory that supports HomeKit can be paired directly with Home Assistant via the HomeKit plugin. You get all the benefits of Apple's HomeKit security without being tied to just their ecosystem.

You can use those two systems to build a pretty robust, offline system.

The company behind Home Assistant also offers a remote access subscription for like $5 per month if you don't want to worry about the hassle of setting up remote access yourself.

In the safety and comfort of our homes it's easy to see it is a scam, and we can poke holes at it all we want. But it's important to read just in case it happens to us or those we love.

I think this is an extremely important point to stress. It might seem obvious to us reading this story, but in the moment it can seem all to real and serious.

My dad fell for one of those fake IRS tax scams where they call and say you'll be arrested unless you pay your "back taxes" immediately. This was nearly a decade ago, before they were as widespread and well known as they are now. When he told me what happened, my first reaction was to be mad, but I can see why he panicked in the moment and sent them the money (luckily it was only $200).
