Those in the video are most likely engineers. They build things. I do not trust their ability to fully grasp the consequences of their machines in humankind. That's big picture stuff. The kind of thing humanities people tend to worry about. Their levity and excitement reinforces that impression. To me, they sound like children playing with matches.

So many things. One occurred to me now: they clearly like the AI that's talking to them. Not in the way that I like my car, but rather in the way that I love my son. They are the makers of that construct. They know very well it lacks consciousness. Still, they are affectionate towards it. I don't think they're acting.

I find that disturbing. If those who know the entrails of the machine can't help themselves, what about your average person?

A machine that understands emotion and know how to be supportive may replace human contact to some, leading to incredibly unhealthy lifestyles.

I've been expecting for a while for a cult to develop around an AI. It's just a matter of time.

People tend to talk about jobs and such, but there's so much more I'm worried about.

I totally envision a long and fruitful career for her. She is a force of nature, a dynamo of comedic energy! Sarah Sherman would be funny reading the phone book!

Maya Rudolph is hosting this week, so yeah. That's a good one. I'm definitely downloading this episode in full (although they generally put everything on YouTube).

I think I'll get the habit of watching in full anyway. Get a stronger sense of it being live. It makes a difference. I might even look for some pirate stream and actually watch it live -- it doesn't officially stream in my country.

    2. I met a soon to be father on a WhatsApp group for my city. We talked about that stuff and I'm looking forward to maybe having another father to talk about fatherhood. My current friends are either disinterested or emotionally immature.

    3. I'm feeling positive about the new basketball that I bought. There's a pair of basketball hoops in my condo -- it's pretty old and unmaintained. Nothing official, but usable. The problem is that it's in a very visible area and people make me anxious. Hopefully I'll manage my desire to be invisible and shoot some hoops. My rational brain knows no ones cares enough to even look at me, but I feel watched. I may ask my psychiatrist to give me some clonazepam just because of that. He does that sometimes when I have a specific need. It's not something I should take regularly.

The way Doom Emacs do configurations makes total sense. To the point that I would use it even if they removed all non-essential packages. Just to have a manageable init.

I'm rewatching Great News (2017) which recently got on Netflix. What a delightful, funny, zany workplace show! Everyone hits their marks since episode one. It is not as frenetic as other shows in the "Tina Feyverse" so I can actually understand and appreciate the jokes and have time to laugh. Briga Heelan is funny and endearing. Stunning too. There's really nothing wrong to justify it being canceled with only two seasons, but it was network TV and stakes were high. Unfortunately, despite Heelan's talent, casting an unknown lead probably hurt them. The show might have survived if they had chosen some beloved SNL alumni instead. Or someone from The Office. You get the idea.

For what's worth I have used Vimium for almost a decade in several browsers and never encountered anything like that. I can't even recall any bug at all.

Whenever you ask yourself "can I get Emacs to do that?", the answer is usually yes.

Emacs is inadvisable for tinkering addicts. That is true for Vim as well, but few can resist Elisp's narcotic embrace. You may spend more time messing with your car than actually driving it. Emacs is too interesting for someone with poor impulse control such as myself. However, if you're capable of resisting the urge to tinker, you can get a lot of benefit from it.

EDIT: forgot to mention that I find Vim keybindings immensely pleasurable. I don't care about any elusive gains in productivity I just think they feel really nice so I use them whenever supported. Including my time with Emacs.

That is sound advice but I wonder who is it for. Most sane people already follow those steps spontaneously, and the ones who are not sane are unlikely to be persuaded by them. They're rather trivial and intuitive. Also, I'm rarely presented with a compelling conspiracy theory that could very well be true. They are usually deranged, requiring no effort to dismiss. So, while the article does contain truthful answers, they are answers to some very easy questions.

I'm not sure if they're all "performative" in the negative sense you use here. There are certainly those who seek to demonstrate their moral worth to a group by making political statements. However, a large amount of those conversations serve to exchange reassurances and reinforce bonds. Some interactions are neither debates nor call to actions. The objective is a form of catharsis, mental regulation through the purification of emotions. Even when they fail to achieve that.
