Inbox is being discontinued by Google as they migrate these users to gmail by March 2019. I'm actually genuinely upset by this as Inbox is one of the more clean and polished services Google has had to offer. Going to miss the reminders, grouping, and snoozing options in the app. Gmail is nowhere close to the UI design Inbox had.

I'm thinking the same. If Google wants to shake up how they handle their email clients, this is a better time than most: instead of getting use to GMail again, might as well jump ship entirely.

This worries me, I currently pay a few dollars extra on Play Music so those in my family group on Google can have it. I'll need to do more digging to make sure that transfers over.

I loved it an used it exclusively for a long time but it was so, so slow for me. And apparently others judging by the forums I was reading. Back to gmail for now.

This has inspired me to look at free/open source email clients like Thunderbird and Evolution and even...Emacs.

I liked having separate Keep and Inbox reminders, but it seems now I'll have to go through all my Inbox reminders and convert them over (the least they could do is have a tool to convert them to Keep reminders).
I'm really disappointed in Google. It seems that they kill all their good new products.
This is frustrating: I switch to Inbox and moved to the "inbox zero" flow for managing my emails and I really enjoyed it. I never needed to scroll through a bunch of emails, or re-purpose "stars"...

I never needed to scroll through a bunch of emails, or re-purpose "stars" as "todos." When I needed to know about something, it'd come off snooze and then I'd deal with it. It is a really nice, low-stress way of dealing with emails.
From the migration guide they've published, it seems that GMail now has the snooze feature, and I can still keep an empty inbox, so I guess it won't be too annoying of a change. Still, it's annoying - there wasn't anything wrong with Inbox (for me), and Google is killing it.
I was wrong: GMail doesn't support adding custom reminders and snoozing them. Google wants us to download another app called "Tasks" and do task management there. No thank you. I'll use Inbox...

Ugh, Gmail apparently doesn't let you group emails by category/label, but still show those groups in one inbox (in "bundles"). Instead I would have to use the tabs feature, so instead of one list...

IMO bundles is the best feature of Inbox, but it hasn't been brought to Gmail.
I set up labels to act like "folders" might in Outlook and that's made the transition easier for me. The "bundles" aren't in the inbox, but instead on the left hand side.

IMO the gmail redesign (not sure when it started, i clicked accidentally on the webmail the other day, i usually use thunderbird) is horrible, my eyes hurt when looking at that, can't they just follow simple designs like roundcube's or even tutanota?

I might be in the same boat. First they replace Play Music with Youtube Music, and now this...
Is play music dying? I still have a subscription and I thought the services would (confusingly) live side by side.
My understanding was that Youtube Music would replace play. Here is an article that explains a bit.

Which features are you referring to? Many of Inbox's features simply don't exist in Gmail – bundles, reminders, pinning...

I guess Inbox is going to join Google Reader and others on the ever-growing list of apps everybody liked but Google didn't know what to do with.
