    From the linked article

The Financial Times said its sources did not say if the U.S. protest to India resulted in the plot being abandoned, or if it was foiled by the FBI. It said the protest was registered after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was welcomed on a state visit by President Joe Biden in June.

I think there is a big difference between the plot being abandoned, vs the plot being in progress and getting stopped by the FBI. I'm leaning towards the former, but only time will tell how far along India went. Nonetheless, it is quite concerning that India has even considered stepping on the toes of US sovereignty.

We received some more information regarding the plot.

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan said the unnamed Indian official, whose responsibilities include security and intelligence, and Indian national Nikhil Gupta, 52, plotted this summer to kill a New York City resident who advocated for a sovereign Sikh state in northern India.

They did so - exchanging messages with an undercover DEA agent about the planned assassination - even as President Joe Biden was honoring Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a state visit to the White House on June 22.

Seems I was right about it the plot being caught in the planning/details step rather than the plot being stopped underway.

I am interested to see if this "unnamed Indian official" has gone rouge or if there are others with/behind them. Will being interesting how India in particular handles this. I am also dying to know if this the same person who plotted the assassination in Canada.
