Anyone who has followed the history of Malcolm X knows two things:

    • The nation of Islam are responsible for his assassination beyond a shadow of a doubt. The sect had an open history of violence between the FOI, it's paramilitary wing, and policing member's activities. For months leading up to his departure NOI leadership and ministers openly incited hate towards Malcolm amongst their membership. After Malcolm X left and started his own competiting organization those same people openly demanded violence and death for Malcolm. One of those who attacked him includes the Nation's current leader Louis X. Members of the NOI were worked up into a blood lust. There were street fights between the competing organizations. Malcolm's house was firebombed while he and his family were inside.

    • The FBI gave less than 0 fucks about his assassination and completely cocked up the investigation. They did what white law makers did back then: They jailed whatever African American they saw fit, irregardless of who was actually at fault.

Irregardless of this fact there is no mystery concerning Malcolm X's death. We know, ultimately, who were responsible and we have a very good idea of which members from the Newark mosque actually carried out the assassination. While the FBI has a role to play on the death they certainly did not convince the leadership of the NOI to resent Malcolm's popularity. They didn't tell NOI leadership to demand Malcolm's head from the pulpit.

Yeah... this show is basically a murder mystery in which the assassin is revealed in the first 30 minutes. Still interesting because Malcolm is a wonderful character.

Between his personal growth in Islam, his growth on the question of race, and his growth from minister to civil rights activist there is a lot of interesting history to follow there. One of my favourite bits about his life is how he at one point attempted to coordinate with the KKK while expanding the NOI into the south. Such a "what the fuck" moment that reveals a whole 'nother layer to the racial ideals of that era.

I'd still like to see an official examination done properly.
