Ed is not the most charismatic leader unfortunately but he is absolutely a better choice from a policy standpoint than Moran, who I'm afraid to say comes across to the electorate as a caricature of a man-hating feminist come to life.

Polling suggests that the UK is substantially more socially conservative than the internet would have you believe, and as capable as Moran is she would be certain to throw herself on pointless landmines like the recent Land of Hope and Glory thing in a vain quest for Twitter applause. Davey is smarter than that and, speaking personally, I think the Lib Dems are at their best when they have at least a streak of the Orange Book about them.

It's a book written about 15 years ago by a group of Lib Dems, most of whom have moved on from politics these days with Davey as the most notable exception. It basically advocates for increased economic liberalism, and therefore has traditionally been the banner around which the more economically right-wing Lib Dems have amassed in recent times.

Thanks, I appreciate the info. I never really had a good read on what the party was about until now, whereas the tories, labour, and UKIP were more obvious.

The Lib Dems are a slightly motley agglomeration of progressives who are too capitalist to be Labour members and capitalists who are too progressive to be Tory members. They are at their most unified on issues of civil liberties, in which regard they have been pretty much the only one of the three major parties to take an anti-authoritarian stance in recent years.
