I like to post I agrees and elaborate when I feel like sharing, which is generally when I read something I also experienced or on a topic I am interested in and I'm generally not interested in controversial topics so that helps.

A good example for me is maybe reading the weekly gaming thread and seeing someone playing a game the same time as me or maybe feeling similar to it but not quite. It's nice to day back oh yeah, I feel or have felt that way and this is how I work though it.

Actually this post itself is another indicator, while I used to be very wordy online back in the day, I don't post as much as I used to, anywhere, not thinking my voice or opinions are intelligent or insightful as most others I see. I also at the same time want to be more engaged in general and miss the seemingly easy ability I had in my younger days to do that.

But anyway this I'd my way to work through that, see something I relate to and give my version of how I work through that. Still, I write and delete a lot of posts, all the time. I'm going to hit post on this one for sure, I think...

I feel like we are going to very soon need a video/audio revolution similar to how pgp encryption popped up. We are going to need a way to reasonably prove a video came straight from camera lense to posting without any alteration. Hopefully there will be some app or even hardware signing going on that will only accept direct unedited video or maybe allow a special verification flag only for those posts.

It's not here now but in 10 years it will probably be extremely easy to generate convincing faked by thr masses and thst is when it is going to get really hard to trust anything being real.

We have access to so much computing now, and as that gets bigger and bigger we're going to be seeing our cpus do wilder and wilder things.

I think id agree here. I haven't watched it since it's time but I recall being amazed by it,so shame it might not hold up.

But really you have to remember until a bit recently, if you were a fan of fantasy or Sci fi, you had very few options for movies and TV. It was also at the time a giant novelty to have a continuous TV series that wasn't just episodal plots and had an overarching story. That in itself was enough to make a lot of shows captivating.

There are a lot of fantasy/Sci fi movies and shows I have good memories of thst I would probably not touch now. Back then we had nothing like the expanse, and Battlestar was the only thing you got that wasn't star trek.

I was very angry to watch that footage as I feel the same as you about student protests. It's a bunch of kids getting out to stand up for something and find their voice. It's not an invitation for a bunch of 40 year old men to show up and freely be able to start beating on these young kids like what happened. It honestly makes me sick.

I honestly can't even understand why it's controversial to take the stance that people don't want to support a nation that is literally murdering thousands of children. Uvalde or sandy hook upsetting to you? Those are rookie numbers. Picture your entire high-school. Good now they are all dead and that's not enough kids yet to match the body counts by a long shot we need to grab some other schools to get the numbers up. So easy to abstract those deaths away for people for reasons, but really, it should be unacceptable for anyone who calls themselves moral.

I still go to reddit because I'll scroll /games for headlines and I enjoy reading bestofreddit update fan fiction. Not that I aggressively tried to participate before, but I don't really comment like I used to, if at all. I am less trusting of posts about products or information than I used to be, as I'm pretty sure since the great mod migration of late there don't seem to be people with ideals nursing the site any longer. Honestly, the loss of using a 3rd party app and the dark patterns they use on mobile don't encourage me to spend much time on the site. Honestly I've found myself filling my wasteful reddit time with tiktok since if I'm going to consume meaningless crap while I'm on the bathroom might as well take in meaningless video content.

Tildes is pretty much the only place I'm coming into where I am less guarded in terms of the opinions and posts/topics that come by the feed. I used to feel with reddit that I had a reasonably good place to get a good amount of earnest discussion about any topic, but that feeling has long since passed. I guess before the exodus it was already heading that way and the right now I feel like the quality on reddit has just tanked.

Agree strongly here. I was just watching a very long history of rpgs video and it was interesting to think how going back to the old games it was always a shock of seeing something you never thought could exist when new things came out. After a while the games were more about how they use different features together and overall production values or volume of content. It was a shock of new tech, that is long gone.

The same with the internet now. There is no reason the small web or all the things we had in the 90s couldn't exist now, and honestly are significantly easier to create now. It's just that having a web page isn't cool and novel like it was when I created my first geocities account way back when. Now that the world is online I feel like I don't have much to day or any gaps to full that others are doing a better job with. Perhaps that is defeatist but I just don't feel the same excitement level that I used to.

Another factor is that tech breakthroughs today feel over my head or are done at a scale that is untouchable for the novice. Back in the day you can learn all you need to in a short period of time output what professionals are outputting. But now the bleeding edge takes a lot of pre knowledge, money, or both.

Computers will always be magic to me but the time of it being really approachable and easy to get into are starting to be a thing of the past.

I use 1password as well, but it was my first and only password manager, so I can't give a basis of comparison. My wife uses it as well but typically I have to set her up and occasionally troubleshoot, it's especially hard for her on mobile, but I can't even get her comfortable with fingerprint usage. But overall both of us having the shared vault and so I can keep the important logins with a good passwords and both of us able to login is great. Having 2fa on to be autofllilled means I turn 2fa on everywhere I can even if the account is not important.

So really has been a great product to use through several phones and computers and has made my life much easier. I plan to get my kids using it too as they are hitting an age where they are going to start needing logins for things now.

So while I can't compare to other free products I've been happy with the pay service for several years now.

I'd like to add on that with something like XML as people have mentioned that while it is very trivial to understand the format, I have found it not very trivial to actually interact with XML. The different formats for data like XML, JSON, YAML are just really rules for parsing a text file. In the end you are almost going to be more concerned with how the programming language you are using will be reading them in.

Granted, I haven't had to interact with XML in a few years so may be dated in saying this, but found it always a bigger job than I wanted it to be to do things with an XML file. So I could easily create one for a small example, but the actual act of parsing it into a data structure and doing any basic CRUD operations on it always took a little longer than it would seem at first glance.

More recently, I tend to see JSON or YAML in place of where I used to see XML, and it seems to me a lot of json libraries have been easier to work with, but generally I've only used JSON to quickly serialize/deserialize things rather than reading in larger sets of data with it. I do overall feel that XML is on the way out and it may be worth focusing on JSON and/or YAML over it.

SQL can be a pretty big topic on its own and you would really benefit from something more structured than only tutorials and project learning. You can get the initial stuff out of the way by tutorialing though, it helps the formal class have context if you are a bit aware of what is going on ahead of time.

That sounds well and good until people start making laws and punishing people for not feeling anxious too.

Thing is personally people can believe what they want, but we can't take action around unproveable claims or else we'll be in chaos.

I agree with both points made, nobody can claim to know another person's experience, sure, but this puts religion right along side every conspiracy theory out there as well, so it really should not be elevated to its current tax free virtuous state that we hold them to.

I strongly agree here. I really regret not having my life before like digital cameras documented at all except a few old photos. Those memories without pictures fade with time while the photos reinforce moments in my memory when I see them. Sure, major moments you remember, but I also want to remember slices ofy life that aren't strong enough to never forget.

I have learned not to take pictures of things, other people will take better photos of those things. I take pictures of the people in my life enjoying something, nobody else is going to capture that for me at all if I don't do it, so I do.

The paranoid person in me feels like you should power off your phone and put it at the bottom of a pack. While it is a distraction, it is also an incredibly valuable safety tool as well. Having grown up without a cell phone I remember being lost, and, even with directions from others it is not easy to find your way. There is a lot less infrastructure in terms of public phones if you need to call someone for any reason.

There is also the risk of an accident or fall out away from anybody where you can't continue to ride. Nobody plans for that to happen but if it does it is good to be prepaired for people to find you.

I'd also suggest standard safety measure suggested for long hikes like extra water and food as well as letting people know where you are going so if you don't make it back they can tell people where to look for you.

Again I highly doubt anything would happen, I site people ride /walk the trail frequently, but it's good to be prepared just in case, you never want to be in that unlucky worst case scenario wishing you could have your phone to call for help!

One thing I really liked in Last Epoch vs Path of Exile for myself is that once I hit empowered monoliths, instead of sitting down making store filters for gear, I made loot filters instead and got right back to playing the game. I really don't like interacting with markets if I don't have to. I am terrible at buying and selling and usually feel like I lost every interaction I have, even if I am coming out ahead.

I did stop playing last epoch as I've found that in order for me to grind away for longer at something I have to be trying to reach or overcome some type of content. While last epoch has a nice vehicle for grinding the gear it is going to need the next step for why I'm hunting for specific gear and need bigger numbers for me to keep going. That is just me though. Overall it is an excellent ARPG that I plan to play for years to come as long as they keep building onto it.

I strongly agree 100% and is why I always hesitate to show anime to people that aren't anime viewers. It's because the stuff goes far beyond just a racy flash of skin and just casually shoves a taboo uncomfortable topic into something that didn't need it. I am all for people making stories about whatever they want, if that is the main theme, then fine, it can be edgy work. But it really is just inserting something so out of place in a story it is baffling. It's like you are sitting watching a historical documentry that cuts to live action periodically as things are described, except that 3 minute cut is hardcore pornography for just that one part of the 16 hour documentry on the US revolutionary war.

Vinland is another of my all time favorites here as well. The two seasons go hand in hand and are honestly amazing how much the both reinforce one another. The way season one is set up as typical action anime as thorofin grows up on the battlefield and warrior culture draws you in along with him, and in season two stepping out and being so self reflective about everything that happened is amazing and even brings you along with it because it was so easy to revel in the fighting as a viewer as well. I know a lot of people did not like the pace change but I found it amazing and the two as companion pieces are amazing, I wish more people would be able to watch the whole of it.

I just want to randomly share how much I like Frieren. I started watching it and it didn't really click with me until a few episodes in and then something just snapped and I fell in love with it. I usually don't watch still running anime and once I caught up the past few weeks I would visibly groan out loud in frustration when the credits popped up so fast and it was over already.

I can't really place why the show is drawing me in so much, I think the introspection is through the roof in the plot and that is something that really appeals to me greatly. Frieren really is inside her head a lot and maybe that is also something I really associate with as I feel I'm generally the same, but the show does a great job making you think she isn't noticing or thinking about things but hits you with a lot of moments where she very clearly did think a lot and for a long time about them.

I think if I were a younger person I maybe wouldn't be as in love with the show but for me right now I'll join the rest of the internet in loving this series!

If you are upset with diablo you might want to check out last epoch. I don't think there is too much end game content yet, but the game is structured really well and allows a lot of expirimentation before you lock in to a build and start to itemize it heavily. It is a very nice start to what I hope will be a long lived arpg.

Path of radiance really grabbed me and became a favorite of mine. I later tried the follow up on the wii but it didn't hook me the same. I also didn't much like the gba and ds game styles too much. Three houses however did really get me good and is just as memorable as path of radiance. Fire emblem engage I put it down after like 3 battles and didn't feel like coming back to it.

For another game maybe see if you can dig up ogre battle 64 on an emulator (n64). I tried fresh on am emulator and really liked it. I hadn't played it back in its day but had played the snes version. It held up really well and I found myself caught up in the story. It's not 100 fire emblem but it sort of feels similar in many ways. Maybe this one is a stretch but worh a look.

There is also symphony of war, a recent indie that is a combination of fire emblem and ogre battle. The story didn't do much for me but gameplay and unit designs kept me busy with it. Overall solid game that scratched the elusive fire emblem itch.

Another reach but maybe triangle strategy might be good too. It's more a tactics game, however it gave me good fire emblem vibes in terms of story and how the characters are all unique class's unto themselves. It was a surprise hit for me even though the story seems to turn a lot of people off it based on reviews.

Anyway hope one of those stick. Three houses is the only game that really came close to path of radiance, it is not a really well saturated genre by a long shot.
