That’s good to hear and that’s true there’s not much incentive to have bots making comments here. I suppose the user count and the lack of ads on the site help with that.

Keeping up with Mashle, Frieren, Solo Leveling, and Apothecary Diaries. Finishing Summertime Rendering, which is pretty good and I’m glad I waited to start it until it was finished.

I think used media works great for older stuff but I definitely look for ways to directly support artists versus giving platforms a huge cut, though that’s easier said than done :(

Why CDs when direct downloads exist? I’m probably the only person I know that buys full albums these days (typically from bandcamp or Apple Music) but I’d rather cut down on physical waste if the file ends up on my phone/computer in the long run. I’m not sure what physical media adds when I could copy said file onto a flash drive (assuming there isn’t DRM on said files).

I think as AR tech advances there’s a non zero chance of Go (or some iteration of it) becoming something much much more interesting. It’s possible collision could be simulated so combine that with animated Pokémon and maybe someday we could get Pokémon IRL (digitally) where you have to go out and find stuff!

It’s a combination of a few online recipes and trial and error. I have a bit of a sensitivity to spice as Ive aged so corn starch helps cut down on the heat. As long as the mixture is added to the stir fry while it’s still hot, it’ll thicken as you continue to stir.

Falafel rice sounds incredible. We often use a tahini-lemon-garlic sauce on bowl dishes or salads but I’ve yet to try making falafel on my own. Would be a great addition!

Hi all. I cook as often as I can and thought it might be fun to chat about any recipes you’ve tried or would like to try! I’m vegan so anything I post in this thread will be too. Maybe even share snacks or restaurants that are you’ve tried that you’ve liked!

To start is a simple sauce/stir fry recipe I make when I’m pretty tired after a long day:

    Spicy salty sweet sauce:

    1-2 tbsp gochugaru
1 tbsp white or black rice vinegar
    1 tbsp mirin
    1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp agave or maple syrup
    1 tsp corn starch

I usually put all of the ingredients together except for the corn starch and then set aside as I do the rest of the prep.

The rest of the recipe is a bit more variable as I have certain ingredients but looks like this:

1 cup cooked white rice OR hand pulled noodles

    Noodle recipe:
    250g all purpose flour
    125 ml water
    1/4-1/2 tsp salt
    Canola oil

I add the flour, water, and salt to a bowl, mixing with my fingers. It starts to form pretty quickly into a mass. I knead the mass of dough into a ball until uniform. With the large, smooth dough ball I cut it into 8 pieces with a knife, roll them into a sort of prolate spheroid shape, and coat with canola oil. Put the oiled dough shapes into a bowl and cover with a damp towel. Let them rest for about an hour or so.

Heat a pot of water. Flatten the dough pieces into rectangles with a rolling pin. Use the rolling pin (if it’s a thin one, otherwise I use large chopsticks), to press the dough lengthways to create a sort of seam. Hold each end of the dough and slowly pull to stretch. Slap on counter as you pull a few times. Stretch it as long or short as you’d like. On the seam you made with the rolling pin, split the noodle apart so that the noodle is now a large loop. Put into the boiling water and wait roughly a minute /or until it’s floating. Can cook a few noodles at a time, though I usually do one or two and roll/pull while they boil.

With the noodles or rice done or going and the sauce almost ready, start to chop vegetables, maybe a cup or so of 2-3 types. I like Napa cabbage, squash, green onions, bell pepper, and carrots but really get whatever you’d like or have on hand at the time. Sauté the vegetables in a tbsp or so of oil (I use canola or olive), starting with onions/garlic and then adding others as you see fit. Once the vegetables are done to your liking, add the noodles or rice, then the sauce (adding in the corn starch to the sauce at this point) and stir.

Often I’ll actually fry a half block or block of tofu I’ve cubed before adding vegetables into the oil. I usually do this as the noodles (or if I’m doing a pot of rice, as it begins to cook) are about done resting, maybe with 15-20 mins to go, since frying tofu can take awhile.

I like to serve in bowls, topping with a dash of sesame oil, black sesame seeds, and fresh green onion.

I’ll post more recipes in the thread as I make them but this is probably the most frequent thing I make in a given week. Feel free to share your own!

I'm currently a level 71 druid and screamed through the campaign and world map completion while grinding out Nightmare dungeons. I like it a lot, and have been playing with a few friends. I never played Diablo 1 or 2. I didn't really PC game when 3 came out so this has been a nice game to chat during when I and friends have finished work for the day.

This is probably going to be a bit of a hot take but Pokemon Go is my favorite game in the series since it's the only one that incorporates real "adventure" into the game.

I've played every game pretty extensively, even finishing a few full ribbon masters. For those that are unaware, ribbon masters are Pokemon where you collect every ribbon possible for the game of origin. If you caught a Pokemon in Scarlet in the latest generation (thus making it impossible to transfer into older games), then you would want to obtain 4 ribbons: Paldea Champion, Master Rank, Effort, and Best Friends. The Once-In-A-Lifetime is omitted from being considered since (at the time of my having finished my ribbon masters) it is unable to be obtained legitimately. The Pokemon I finished getting the ribbons for originated in Colosseum and made their way all the way to Sword/Shield.

In order to get all of the ribbons you generally have to finish a fair bit of the post game of each game. All this to say I've definitely played my fair share of the games themselves, not to get into the competitive battling I've done on Showdown and such.

At the end of the day, I had a lot more fun running to the end of a foggy, dimly lit dock in order to catch a Meganium in 2017 than playing through all of the other games.

Besides Go, I'd say Red/Blue/Yellow are my favorite since they were the first I played and got me into the franchise to begin with.

I started taking detailed notes for the 6.00.1 class but you're right, I'm not being as efficient as I can.

Thank you so much again for this advice. I am fully prepared to fail and fail often but that's the only way to move forward.

Thank you for this. I haven't found many folks that have completely shifted gears so its nice to hear from someone who has been in my position. You might be right that 6 months is a tight window, especially with how things are right now, to fully realize my goal but I think at a minimum I can leverage what I've learned into a role where I can continue to grow as a SWE, even if minimally. Progress is progress.

Your insight about how I can use programming more practically is very helpful - I'll see where I can apply it to the things I already do or what friends and family might need help with to start. Maybe simple scripts that just help day to day stuff.

That's nice to hear about boot camps, actually. I think I will revisit the option after all come December. I actually thought of a tool I could create that might simplify things at a previous internship, so once I have a bit more of the syntax of Python down I plan on starting with that. It's a simple inventory management system that I'm sure has been created a million times but I think it would be a fun project to take on.

Thank you for sharing, I fully agree! For me where it gets fuzzy is the commercialization of media to fund raise the more risky projects. Also, I feel that there are diminishing returns on quality - especially when an idea is created, then copied, then copied over and over until the original message is lost. It's super interesting and definitely something I would like to spend more time analyzing about even if I don't directly take part in the conversation (for now, anyway). In short it's why I like tildes so much - it seems to be taking a bottom up approach that tackles what I find to be the darker side of media production.

That's alright, I think ultimately I'll discover what sorts of projects I would like to actively contribute to organically. For now, I actually hardly use anything outside of the basics. On my iPhone I have 5 3rd party apps: AdGuard Pro, 1password, my banking app, Venmo, and LINE so I can keep in contact with one of my friends abroad. On my laptop (iOS) and desktop (Windows) I have Zoom, Dropbox, Microsoft Office, DaVinci Resolve, Photoshop, Lightroom, Malwarebytes, emacs (haven't used it much yet), and Anaconda for Spyder since that's what the 6.00.1 course recommended I install.

Websites I visit are Google, YouTube, edX, MIT OCW, Tildes, Reddit, GitHub (soon), LinkedIn, Gmail, Protonmail, Google Docs, Amazon, Netflix, chess.com, online-go, Roll20, Myth-Weavers, LeetCode (soon), government sites, and whatever else google sends my way when I'm looking for answers. It feels like my internet use is pretty bare bones, especially since the extent to which I use social media is limited to LinkedIn, Tildes, and Reddit.

I guess by default I would be interested in helping contribute to any of those since those are actually the things I use.
