I'll admit, I haven't watched her roles in either The Gray Man or Ghosted. As a John Wick fan, I'll probably see Ballerina when it comes out.

But, I would encourage Ana de Armas to lean more into the actorly side of her talents. Her role in Blade Runner 2049 was incredible, as was her acting in Knives Out, which brilliantly downplayed her sexuality. Blonde was a mixed bag, but her acting was one of the bright spots in that difficult film. And I thought she brought some refreshing twinkle to her small role in No Time to Die.

If I was her agent, I'd be shoving more dramatic scripts towards her before consigning her to the female action movie ghetto.

No Time To Die was a good choice (prestigious franchise, personally chosen by Craig) but these other action movies of hers have left a lot to be desired. And Ballerina has been going through extensive reshoots indicating problems with the film.

I’m actually surprised she hasn’t been able to book more prestige projects after her Oscar nomination for Blonde.

She was great in Blonde, but the movie itself was pretty reviled amongst critics and viewers, which puts a damper on using it as a springboard.

Yeah, but the industry really liked it. She even got a nomination at SAG and they hate those types of art house films. I remember Colin Farrell praising her when he won the Golden Globe for Banshees.

She's someone who feels like she has a ton of potential, but just isn't quite there yet. I first saw her in BR 2049, and I thought she stole the show, but didn't love her in knives out as much....

She's obviously drop dead beautiful, which I'm sure she's aware of, but she doesn't lean on that as much as she could and take easy roles that just simply call for a beautiful woman in order to make a quick buck, which I respect.

I think more than half of being a successful movie star with staying power, once you get a certain level of exposure, is knowing which roles to take, and more importantly which roles to decline.

Yeah she's a phenomenal actress and deserves to have that skill set on display more imo.

Agree, and I hate the fact that we are in an era where there are no more movie stars.

Could you explain further what you are trying to say here? Why isn't Ana de Armas a movie star?

Just that "movie star" isn't the pinnacle of fame it once was. There are almost no actors who can guarantee box office anymore. An actor can star in a blockbuster, but then their next film can flop.

Whoevers fault it is (my beef is with studios asking for too much money from theaters for ticket sales, which causes theaters to way overprice their food/snacks to compensate), going to new-release movies more than once a month is not affordable for the general public anymore. Why drop $40 for 2 tickets and food when I can wait 3 months and the same movie will be out on the subscription service I'm already paying for?
