That's such a clever marketing technique, because usually people say "I'll wait for a sale", but by having a sale right away they are playing on people's FOMO.
I'm going to skip it too, because everyone raving about Animal Well has caused me to not like it, because I'm secretly a bit of a gaming hipster.
It's actually pretty common on steam actually! I usually don't post them but I noticed some chatter around the game. I feel like at least most indie games I track have launch discounts for 1 or 2 weeks, generally something like 10%.

Epic weekly freebie: Dragon Age Inquisition: GOTY Edition
I remember this one came out right before finals. As a big Dragon Age fan, it wrecked my studying, but my grades were fine. While none of the entries hold the same place in my heart as Origins, I do think Inquisition is a good time. You could hop in without playing the previous entries, you'll be able to select archetypes for characters representing decisions in prior games if I recall correctly. None of them really substantially impact the main plot but moreso side characters and world building aspects.

I feel like most people have Minecraft already, but on the off chance you don't, this is a relatively rare sale that includes the Java and Bedrock editions for $15. Personally Minecraft Java edition is probably one of the games I've spent the most time in (Skyfactory ate my life at one point), and I think it's worth it for the infinite possibilities.
It's also worth mentioning that the Android and iOS versions are on sale. I finally picked it up on Android, after kicking myself for missing the 10 cent sale some years back.
They're also running a promo with daily giveaways in the launcher, as well as integrations with Twitch and TikTok. That's likely just for Bedrock though, and if I'm being honest, I find the FOMO mechanics of "Twitch Drops" to be rather unfortunate.
My namesake, the venerable and very dated Killing Floor, is on sale on Steam for 90% off.
I don’t recommend that you get it though. Why? Because it’s a better deal to get the Digital Deluxe Version of Killing Floor 2 at 95% off. Why? Because that version also comes with a copy of the original Killing Floor. You literally get two games for the price of one because (at least in my region) the cost of the two is the same.
If you’re only going to get one or play one, then Killing Floor 2 is probably where it’s at. It’s much more palatable to modern gaming sensibilities. Plus, they're running a free weekend for it! You can try before you buy!
But, if you’re somehow hankering to return back to an iconic and groundbreaking co-op horde shooter of yesteryear (I see you), then the original might be worth a look.
The game will feel unfair at first, especially if you’re playing solo or with random people. It takes some time to figure out the different zombie types and what strategies work best. There is no crosshair in the middle of your screen. You have to learn the maps.
But if you’re wanting to put in the effort, and especially if you have a team of buddies willing to join you, then the games are sublime.
The first game has voice commands you can access using the
Vkey which pulls up a little menu that you can navigate with the number keys. PressingVthen4then1plays your character’s voiceline for “Get to the trader!” which is sort of your “home base” between waves. My gaming group used to use the in-game line, but then just switched to saying “V41” (as “vee-four-one”) over our voice chat as a vocal shorthand.It caught on and, to this day, well over a decade later, “vee-four-one” remains part of our group vernacular no matter what we’re playing. We use it to roughly mean “go to the home base” but the specifics of that are entirely dependent on what game we’re playing. When a day in Stardew Valley was ending someone would say “V41” to let everybody know to wrap up their chores and head back. When we were busy exploring islands and the shark started attacking our Raft, “V41” was the cue to get back and fight him off.
Seeing this on sale makes me want to V41 to Killing Floor itself. It’s been a minute since I’ve played it, but it’s also the kind of game I can always come back to. Maybe once the Backlog Burner event is done…
I always knew I was weak willed but I clicked add to cart embarrassingly fast. Will try to get in a couple of games with some friends this weekend! It's also on a free weekend if anyone is wants to install 95 gigs to try it for 3 days.

There seems to be a lot of dlc. Is it primarily cosmetic, or is there worthwhile content in them?
Characters are simply cosmetic, while weapon packs are actually additions to the game.
Personally, I’d recommend against getting the DLC unless you know you’re going to play it a lot. There’s plenty of fun to be had with just the base games, and the weapons in the base games are plenty satisfying.
The DLCs are definitely “nice to have” but not “need to have.” If they were cheaper, I would say go for it, but to me the real deal here is just the two base games for 95% off.
Braid: Anniversary Edition is half off if you have the original. Also, Braid has an Anniversary Edition. Netflix has the mobile distribution rights.

Quick things worth noting:

Worth noting Rise + Sunbreak Deluxe (Tier 2) is at a historical low if you consider the deluxe upgrade. At lowest, without the upgrade, it's been $16 before. The Deluxe Upgrade only adds skins, iirc. (FWIW I have about 300 hours in Rise and I barely use layered armor which are basically in game skins)
Iceborne Master Edition, which comes with World and Iceborne, has a historical low of $11 (not including the skins stuff again, same thoughts apply for that from above), so technically if you buy the full bundle you're getting both games + deluxe edition stuff at an all time low.

As for why you should buy it, I have my own thoughts but I'm also a really big fan of @Thomas-C 's writeup that I'll link here.
Personally, I do think that Rise is a great place to start. Though I feel like if you're only looking to dip your feet in, there might be other stores that have it a bit cheaper. Rise is the more "cartoony" of the two games, and was designed for the Switch, so it probably runs better than World on some computers. It's also much faster paced, a bit more forgiving, and more "action-y". I enjoyed Rise a lot, and honestly the DLC makes it better (my friends and I joke that Gore Magala is an old friend of mine). The DLC adds a LOT to an already 160-ish hour game, and gives your weapons a completely different feel in some cases. I'm a gunlance user so the transition between World and Rise/Sunbreak is incredibly jarring.
If you're willing to get into the series even deeper, World is where it's at. It's made by the same team that'll be working on Wilds that comes out next year, so the speculation is that the gameplay will be closer to that, if you're looking forwards to it. The gameplay of World is weighty, deliberate, and is honestly the most immersive gameplay I've ever felt. The world itself feels alive, and you feel yourself growing in knowledge alongside your character.
In both games, I'd say that the general joy of Monster Hunter games is the meta feeling you get from learning how to play the game. Each monster has it's quirks, as does each weapon. Every fight feels almost like a dance where you're learning the steps for the first time. Some of the most satisfying feelings comes from knowing that this is the hit that'll chop off the tail, or knock the monster out, because you've experienced the fights so often. You'll learn how each monster moves, and how your character can exploit openings to be even more efficient. And once you get a group of friends into it, the banter while you do your hunts makes it that much more fun.
I will say, try to get a group into it if you can. Solo play might not be as fun. I'd probably be open to teaching some people the ropes too, if time allows!
I'll recommend against buying it if you don't have patience though. Hunts (at first) take a while, and if you don't have the patience to learn how to use your weapon efficiently, it starts to become a drag. Monsters don't show health, so it's hard to gauge how far into a hunt you are (time limit usually about 50 minutes per hunt). If you are willing to put in the work though, I promise you there's nothing more satisfying.

The Forgotten City is excellent. A great time-loop game. I know this is sacrelige, but I enjoyed it more than Outer Wilds.
If you can look past the jank (it started as a Skyrim mod before being made into a standalone game), it’s a splendid experience.
