Same thing happened in the United States. Original art was often stored improperly, damaged, or thrown out. Prominent figures in the industry, like artist Neal Adams, spearheaded the movement to have original artwork returned to the artists.

From Wikipedia: "During the 1970s, Adams was politically active in the industry, and attempted to unionize its creative community. His efforts, along with precedents set by Atlas/Seaboard Comics' creator-friendly policies and other factors, helped lead to the modern industry's standard practice of returning original artwork to the artist, who can earn additional income from art sales to collectors. He won his battle in 1987, when Marvel returned original artwork to him and industry legend Jack Kirby, among others."

Completely agree. I have a few seasons on DVD and it was gritty as hell, especially for tv at the time. I was just a kid but my very conservative parents made the exception for Miami Vice on Friday nights.

Yes there was the cars, the clothes and all of that, but the core of the series were some great stories with hard choices having to be made by our protagonists.

Not to mention a murderer's row of guest stars throughout the series and incredible synth work by Jan Hammer. Plus Edward James Olmos elevates everything he's in, Miami Vice the series is no exception.

Miami Vice (2006) by Michael Mann. I enjoy the visuals, the realistic violence, the music and the admittedly "wooden" performances.

It was not well received by audiences at the time. Perhaps they wanted something more akin to the tv series, which was so popular when I was a kid.

I know many critical comments were aimed at the oddly detached "romance" between Colin Farrell's Sonny Crocket and Gong Li's Isabella. But for me I read it as: this is romance between two people that cannot let their guard down for even a second. Maybe this is what love looks like when you are surpressing your true identity? I dunno, lol. Probably reading too much into it.

The visuals are so beautiful, like those overhead shots of the cigarette boats cutting through the water.

Thing is I get why people wouldn't like it.... it's slow, the characters are not all that likeable. But I still enjoy it every time.

"Who's writing the funniest quip", my God I definitely don't miss that! I love humor, and some people are genuinely funny in online discussions, but the oversaturation of this phenomenon on other social media sites like Reddit became exhausting.

Also lots of inappropriate humor for the topics being discussed and too many gleefully taking pleasure in the misfortune of others. It really was getting to me, and affecting my mental health.

Not to mention how almost immediately users can go "off topic" and this just creates an avalanche of the same and the original post never really gets addressed.

Like you mentioned I am more inclined to lurk here and if I think I can contribute to a discussion I do. But many times posters on Tildes give such thoughtful responses that I frequently don't feel the need to post. I'm still following and interested in the discussion but am very selective about my contributions.

The comments MATTER more here than a place like Reddit.

Completely agree with all of your points.

Prior to Liefield, Lee, McFarlane etc., under the Shooter regime, a Marvel "house style" was pushed heavily. It was getting pretty stale at that point. The original Image guys, before their exodus, brought a different kind of energy to Marvel, shook up the status quo and got consumer's attention.

I don't like his art but I like Liefield "bashing" even less. It's tiresome. Actual criticism of his art is fine but the personal attacks go way over the line. I'm actually pretty impressed that Liefield hasn't let that make him bitter and still has tremendous affection for the medium and other creators.

    I don't

Wow! I really enjoyed this episode. Definitely got Captain Tracey vibes from the classic TOS Omega Glory episode.

Mount and the writers do such a good job with Pike, the "boy scout" certainly has a lot of rage when stripped of memory and duty....surprised me with that. Was going to flat out murder Yeoman Zac right before getting his memories back.

Although so far this season the stand out for me is Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M'Benga. A MUCH more interesting storyline then first season.

I thought the most chilling scene was of the crew on the ship in the hallway. It hit a bit hard for me, having lost someone close to me to dementia. Chapel in full on zombie mode, like she was medicated.... wandering. And that sole crew member sitting in the corner, rocking back and forth, overwhelmed. It reminded me of an old school asylum, got a definite One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest vibe.

One thing that maybe could have been exploited more, and something I have had personal reason to reflect on, is are we really our "selves" when stripped of our memories? Our experiences shape us, define us, make us who we are. Take that away, who are we really? Not really the same person at all.

Also brought back one of the (few) good scenes from Star Trek V: “I don't want my pain taken away, I need my pain!”

Favorite episode of the season so far for me. Definite classic TOS episode vibes. Perhaps I read too much into it, the storyline interacting with MY memories. But that's when Trek is at its best IMHO, when you find yourself reflecting on the episode, personalizing it, long after the credits have rolled.

I have to start freezing them because the quality of fresh bananas has varied wildly this summer. Silly question but I guess you wait until they are ideal ripeness and put them in a freezer ziplock bag? So you chop them up and just toss them in the freezer and bring them out as needed.

    Hi there,

The only ingredient listed is Organic Dry Roasted Peanuts. Mixing the separated oil with the peanut butter is a bit of a challenge but I'm getting a bit better at it. I went with this particular peanut butter because it has very little sugar (1 gram per tbsp) and no added salt. Quit caffeine and sugared soda, so this is a nice alternative!

I' ve always enjoyed the creepy and atmospheric 2012 remake of The Woman in Black with Daniel Radcliffe.

While there is some frightening imagery, I think Crimson Peak (2015) by del Toro is a wonderfully stylish "haunted house" movie with some great acting by Mia Wasikowska , Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain.

Okay it's not horror, it's a comedy, but Young Frankenstein by Mel Brooks is a brilliant send up of the classic Universal monster movies.

Also been really loving Creepy Presents: Richard Corben. He was so masterful with color. Love those purple and oranges! His black and white work is fantastic as well. Great horror stories, some he wrote himself, while others were collaborating with Bruce Jones.

Have a wonderful copy of the Artist's Edition of The Rocketeer by Dave Stevens that is next on my reading list. Another fantastic ink slinger!

I make a small playlist where I begin with the Progressive Muscle Relaxation exercise, followed by the 8 hour white noise. It's a good system for me and one I have used for years now.

Blackout curtains can pretty much cutout any extraneous light. I got mine on Amazon. Also good for keeping the bedroom cool during the day if you have a lot of sun.

When I moved into my current place a few years back, the hardwood floors were pretty seriously scratched up. I tried all sorts of traditional cleaners, but a fair amount of dust resides in those scratches and is sometimes tough to lift out. Also I have a curious cat wandering around and have always been wary of the harsher cleaning products somehow getting on his paws.

After a bunch of attempts I came across this video:
    https://youtu.be/rzR2xuDSagg

It's essentially a portion of isopropyl alcohol mixed with hot water and a tiny bit of soap. It works great! Because of the alcohol it dries very quickly so I don't have to worry so much about the cat.

I was never much of a cleaner prior to Covid, but all of the time I spent inside got me on a regular cleaning schedule. (I think my Mom would have been proud!) My place is not perfect by any means but I have improved a lot from where I used to be.
